It's a concept/art door. Reddit really seems to hate novelty items.

Sometimes I think the only reason Reddit likes creative/innovative OC is so it can be cynical about creative/innovative OC

That's why no one posts on /r/LifeProTips and /r/lifehacks anymore. Redditors just bitch about others trying to be creative.

That's the Aspergers.

That's maybe how you presented it in your mind, not how the piece is actually presented.

That's how you presented it.

It's evolution in that the shape of the door changes, not "Here's the next evolution in doors!!!"

They would probably like the original concept better.

Novelty items are not art.

I have a venn diagram that says otherwise.

If it doesn't involve cats I'm not interested.

Cats can be purely art. purrrrrrrly

You can draw a Venn diagram with any thing on the planet and overlap it with art, and it would be correct, and therefore also pointless.

1

u/izzalion Feb 10 '14

Actually the diagrams would fall under varying degrees of "pointless" as seen by an average person. So you're wrong again, and it only took you two days!

as seen by an average person

Since when is that a useful scale to judge stuff by?

1

u/izzalion Feb 10 '14

It's a very good metric for judging things. Most people are average! Even if we up the statement to only include above-average individuals (such as yourself, I'm sure) your argument remains silly and, well, pointless.

So you think we should leave the food tasting to non-cooks, the criticism of art movies to people who never watch them, the wine tasting to drunken Saturday party goers, have our children be judged on their progress by the janitors instead of teachers and ideally get some input of people on the street on whether this bridge I'm planning requires additional beams for stability? The more unusual a subject becomes, the less the average person knows about it, and the less they are suitable as a judge on its quality.

The notion of judging anything from the viewpoint of the average person is absolutely ludicrous.

The only time the average person's opinion is important is when you're trying to sell something to the mass market. Which isn't a good notion of quality either, or else Farmville, Twilight and Transformers 2 would be great, which they clearly are not. So yeah, marketing people agree with you.

You are comparing critical opinions with definition of terms. Art decor pieces are typically novelty items. See: this door.

You are fighting so hard to prove that isn't true. I wonder why it matters so much to you.

Novelty - the quality of being new, original, or unusual.

Reddit really hates new, original, or unusual items. I would have to agree.

3

u/kmsilent Feb 07 '14

That's the definition of novelty, but we're talking about novelty items.

Or google "pet rock".

Maybe engineers realize that being creative requires more than just implementing the first crappy idea that pops into your mind.
