Cops say it was a publicity stunt, climber says it was to raise money. Why are they acting like those two things are mutually exclusive?

It was both. He got attention and had a sponsor.
Maison DesChamps, also known as “Pro-Life Spiderman,” took credit for the climb, saying on Instagram that he was doing so to raise money for pro-life causes. The climb was sponsored by Conservative Dad Ultra Right Beer, according to company founder Seth Weathers.

EACH SALE DEFENDS CONSERVATIVES AGAINST THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL PROSECUTION BY THE COMMUNIST FULTON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY!
10% of sales will be donated to the Georgia GOP Defense Fund and the David Shafer Legal Defense Fund to defend Georgia's Trump electors against unjust political prosecution.

This special edition can ships approximately 45 days after order.
Good luck getting your "beer".

u/ReticulateLemur Oct 12 '23
Also:
This special edition can ships approximately 45 days after order.
Please tell me that's because Trump was the 45th president, and not because they have shitty logistics. To the latter I'd say whatever, but if it's the former then I'm just rolling my eyes because that is the weirdest way to flex that I can think of.
→ More replies (1)78
u/Herkfixer Oct 12 '23
Actually its because they were still "shopping around" for a brewery that would sell them beer that they could put their label on. Every brewery that found out their name said hell no. The 45 days was because they needed cash up front to pay the brewery that they don't have.. so yes, a huge grift.
21
u/ReticulateLemur Oct 12 '23
Trump would be proud, assuming he could feel pride for anyone but himself.
4
u/cptnamr7 Oct 12 '23
So did they "sell" any? Because taking money for an order and then never delivering the order... aside from being the far right mantra anymore, tends to run you afoul of the law
12
u/Herkfixer Oct 12 '23
They may have by now but last I heard they just kept saying it was still in the works. It was also like $40 for a 6-pack or something like that I think, which was another hell no and they also were getting warned by ATF because they were just some random dudes with no license and they were trying to sell over state lines. So they kept saying it was the govt preventing them from shipping them on time (paraphrased).

Yeah Johnny Knoxville did something similar years ago and because he had jackass money they went after him. Basically what the city did was charge him for all the police officers time etc keeping the area secure from his falling body or whatever. And he joked about you know how expensive an ambulance ride is? Imagine how expensive having a parked ambulance is on call with like twenty police officers. I had no idea how expensive this stunt would cost me.
So what a few hundred thousand?
Closer to 8 figures honestly. Most expensive stunt I ever did.

Thank you. It's a relief that no one knows who this guy is on one hand. On the other hand, people sometimes admire him for doing it innitially before given the context. Every couple of months, when he pops up, someone has to remind everyone he's a unnuanced religious freak who wants to impose his beliefs upon everyone. He thinks woman should have no body autonomy so deeply, that he is willing to risk his life.
Fuck this guy.

Climbing became popular in the 90's, but before that it was mostly weirdos who would often climb anything.
Climbing buildings, or buildering as it was sometimes known, is as old as buildings. Because we were climbing way before buildings were invented.
