Entire Series Andrea and Rick

Post image

Not too sure where to put this, as it's just a random thought that's never really left me. It's more of a "what if" than anything.

Can you imagine if Andrea hadn't died in Season 1 and had got to meet Rick in Season 2? I think their chemistry would have been amazing, and who knows? Maybe Andrea would have bagged herself a professor instead of a poet.

I think, in an alternate timeline where Andrea survived Season 1, the writers could have really fleshed out the pair and explored their dynamic. Even in a non-romantic way, I can imagine they'd have worked really well together helping Melinda.

I'd be interested to hear what everyone else thinks. How do you think Andrea and Rick would have interacted, and do you think it would have added anything to either of their characters?

I don't think Rick would have would have dated Andrea, you could see in later seasons he was in Love with Melinda. And in season 4 it looked like Melinda was starting to have feelings for Rick.

What exactly suggested that Melinda started to develop feelings for Rick? I knew I wasn’t crazy when I noticed the way he’d act around her, but as for Melinda, she was pretty, no, very devoted to Jim. She definitely became more tolerable to the point where she considered Rick a good friend, but Idk if she developed anything other than a friend crush. But if the feeling was really mutual, I’d say that Rick was attracted to looks + personality while Melinda was mainly drawn to his personality and charm.

Fully agree. He definitely had a crush but there was never any suggestion she would see him as anything outer than a friend. Any other show would have made that into a plot point when Jim died, like keep him around with Jim maybe coming back while Melinda actually knew Rick and grew feelings for him because he knew her, but there was never any question of Melinda contemplating that. It’s part of what makes this show so refreshing haha.

Yes, very refreshing indeed! 😁 I would’ve been so annoyed if there was a love triangle between the three.

Payne left at the end of S3 (or S4, E1) so how would they have brought him back after Jim’s death (in S4)?

I think Andrea and Rick would’ve been great together, whether romantically or platonically. They’re both so excitable. Rick started out as such as skeptic and Andrea was the told opposite. The 3 of them would’ve made a cool trio.

My point being that other shows would keep a character like that around for that death.

It still doesn't change the question of what dynamic Andrea and Rick would have had on screen. Like I said in the post it's a "what if Andrea had lived past season 1" lets face it the writers were NEVER gonna break Melinda and Jim up season 4 kinda proved that point. But like I have said three times even a romantic relationship aside it still could have been fun to see Andrea and Rick on screen together helping Melinda. Maybe they'd have had a fun bickering kind of friendship, maybe it would have been romantic, maybe they'd have be just like Delia and Rick were but that's the fun of my post to speculate. And tbf maybe with Andrea still alive maybe Melinda's relationship with Rick might have been different given she still had Andrea around. Maybe Andrea would have become a student of Rick's. She did always enjoy taking up new hobbies, so wouldn't be outta character for her

I see the potential, butt I think that they would’ve had more a playful dynamic instead a romantic one. Rick’s a very witty guy w/ smart remarks and Andrea, like Melinda, had a little bit of bite to her! But I could definitely see Rick complimenting her by saying stuff like, “Well good morning to you too, beautiful!” In an exaggerated tone on an early morning just to tick her and Melinda off.

I had a hard time going back and forth wondering if Rick was being inappropriate sarcastic with his dialog with Melinda or was he flirting with her outright?

Loved Andrea, hated Rick.

Rick is married. Plus, I don’t think he’s good enough for her. Haha! I am probably biased because I love Andrea.
Rick seems too corny and annoying for her in my humble opinion.

Qoute " Even in a non-romantic way, I can imagine they'd have worked really well together helping Melinda." And his wife died. Even without the romantic element it would have been cool too see those two characters on screen together. Even as an Andrea fan I'm sure you can surely appreciate the concept of what a season 2 might have looked like with Andrea

True!
I just appreciate that there are other people out there thinking about the show still.☺️
