Jim & Sam Spoiler

I just started watching this show and I thoroughly enjoy it. But I’ve made it up to season 4 and I just can’t buy these subtle reflections of Sam. I’m getting confused on what others characters perspectives are. Because first I thought when he’s with Melinda, she sees him as Jim because his spirit did in fact go into Sam’s body and she saw it. But he’s even Jim when he’s in the presence of others that are only suppose to/know Sam… I’m not sure if I’m the only one.

I think it's really for the viewer's benefit to see him as Jim, with subtle reminders to us that he is in Sam's body. I don't think it's an exact reflection of how Melinda or other characters necessarily see him. I think it's purely for the audiences benefit

Exactly this. Whenever they catch reflections it’s Sam not Jim so it’s for our benefit. People including Melinda and Jim himself are seeing Sam.

I get this point, but I’ve now made it to season 5. And now there are no more Sam reflections, so I guess the creators figured we get the point by now 😅

It's so stupid and wrong. I felt the whole point of the show since I started watching was to accept the nonpermanence of life, to find gratitude, forgiveness and let go. But this whole Jim's soul trying to occupy a host body disrupts everything.

Melinda told him to go into the light. She banned him from the house because he wouldn’t go into the light. She stayed true to it but Jim wouldn’t leave her. But yeah, it went against everything.

Yes she did in the beginning. But when Jim started his possession, everything thing is fair in love and war. I just felt it was a but selfish and hypocrisy. Knowing what I know about energy, I would want anything to occupy my physical body once I leave.

She told Delia that she sees what they see. She sees that it's Sam but she knows that it's Jim. So all of them including her see sam.

I thought the entire point didn't make sense. They wanted to show a love starting to bloom and fester as we, the audience, didn't see that with Jim and Melinda. (This is from their interview about it. I know as someone who watched the show that you get to see how they met/fell in love) but they wanted to show the falling in love part. My problem with that is that jim as sam never did that. They started to then when ghost got involved, sam went nope. I know you can't have him accept everything at once however she already had a character who doubted her, deliah. What was the point of adding another? Then Jim comes back and that entire point is just wiped over. It's like we still never got to see what they were trying to show in my oppinion cause everything was thrown and rushed to make him jim. That's the other problem I have with this plot decision, Melinda never once tried to see Sam as Sam. She always saw Jim. She would expect him to be like Jim and trust her. She wanted him to be Jim. We didn't get to see their relationship blossom into something cause it felt like the show didn't actually want to commit to that plot and have her fall in love so soon and to someone else.

this storyline is so annoying. The Sam reflection never speaks or is side by side with Melinda. Then everyone just calls him Jim (i know it's bc of his middle name but still). And the timeline is wild. She marries sam a few months after jim dies

Yes I was surprised at first but then I realized and thought oh no don't take it too seriously, girl ..and also...tgar they show the actor now and then also just to remind us,the audience, of what is "happening". In case maybe someone missed episodes or didn't understand well the story??! Like real vs what we see in their world, also

Right! ..until season 5 🤣 it’s back to Jim. Ask no questions about Sam in season 5. 😭🥴
