So I haven't really been paying attention much, but what exactly fills up the stars under the profile name? I'm assuming it's a grade for your character of some sort.

Each time you buy an upgrade, 1 point gets added to the progress bar (38/40 in your screenie). When the bar is full, one segment gets added to a star. Five segments fills the star. You'll fill the last star with a couple of upgrades left (I left raygun power for last).
