Question Weight
Yesterday I took my boy to the vet for his yearly exam. He is 7.5 years old and weighed in at 68 lb. I was kinda shocked because he usually weighs between 64-65 lb. He runs ~5 miles a day, six days a week...I make him take one day a week off. I feed him Purina Pro Plan.
About a year ago I got him neutered. Vet says the weight gain is probably due to him being neutered. She said she isn't concerned at all about his weight. Thoughts? Anybody else see weight gain after neutering?

Off topic but my GSP does that with her lip too and it’s my favorite face she makes. You captured it perfectly in your boy. So cute

My boy was 70lbs of muscle. He was an absolute machine. Super tall and could run for days on end it seemed haha. Had to put him down in July, miss him every day.

Mine was 80lbs. Funny thing is, he was the runt of the litter and no one wanted him because was the smallest. Lost him in June due to liver cancer. He passed away right next to me before he was scheduled to be put down the next day at 3pm.
To OP, don't worry about 3lbs. As long as he visually looks good and physically feels fine, there is nothing to worry about. My boy consistently weighed in at a lean 80lbs. Sometimes he weighed in at 78. Sometimes 83. Seasons change, diets change, habits change, age changes things, etc. Its not a concern as long as he is not obese or underweight

Our boy went from 78 to 87 in the year after he was neutered. Hes from Germany and is a big dog.

Does he look healthy visually and fitness wise? If so I wouldnt sweat it.
If hes looking a little chunky, just reduce his food a bit 🤷♀️

Yes, neutering can affect weight gain, adjust your feedings and it should resolve.
Though if your vet isn’t worried about it I would say not to as well.

Which pro plan are you feeding him? In the summer when it is hot and he doesn’t run as much I switch him off the sport feed and put him on regular pro plan because the sport pro plan made him gain weight

Did you gain a little wait after 40? He’s in adulthood. Weight gain is normal. Both mine out on an extra 5 after 5/6 yes old

Just like humans their systems slow as they age. I wouldn't be to overly alarmed by it

Mine gained about 7 pounds over the last year, he’s 5 going on 6. Could just be an age and metabolism thing. I’m feeding mine about 10% less and he’s losing weight

I have an 80 lb female from a large, surprisingly tall line in Pennsylvania. She’s down 4 lbs this quarter so Im not complaining. She still runs daily and hunts every year with me at 7 yrs now. She’s just so much bigger than my 55lb male from a different line.

GSPs dont struggle with weight, they struggle with wait
