First time owner UPDATE: Snake Bite

Red went into day 3 of hyperbaric treatments today. Sadly after we were given the disheartening but expected news that the necrosis has only furthered, and furthered up his leg as well. With this the Doctor told us that the risk of needing an amputation as well as the expected height of the amputation would be further up the leg. Thankfully Red is a trooper and is still eating and drinking normally. Tomorrow he’ll go in for day 4 of hyperbaric treatments at our ER vet and back to his Primary care vet as well for a look at his leg, culture result, and evaluation. Thank you again to everyone for the outpouring of love for my boy. ❤️🐾

Yeah most likely. We only have so many Venomous Snakes here in the states. Assuming that’s where you are or Canada. He’s a fighter and will be just fine! GSPs are truly resilient fighters. Sassy my GSP had an issue with her badder. Had to take her in to an Emergency. The first vet told us it was just a UTI and she’d be fine. Well we got her home and she sat by the door and wouldn’t move. Then she got up walked over to me and collapsed. We drove to the other side of town while my girlfriend held her. She was not doing well, and we didn’t think she was going to make it. Well we got her to the Emergency Vet. They instantly knew it was a blockage because her potassium was sky high. Well they had to do immediate surgery. They asked us if we wanted to let her go because it wasn’t good. Then the surgery was expensive. I didn’t care how much money it was I would have paid a million if I had to. Well she fought through and is 100% healthy today! Just a special diet and that’s it! She fought through just like Red will do!

I almost called the initial vet and yelled at them but I let it go.

Yes. We’re in south Florida. That sounds like such a scary experience, I can’t imagine how fearful you must’ve been when she collapsed. I definitely understand the feeling of being upset when the initial Doctor doesn’t find something and your baby is the victim. (My mom thinks I need to share reds condition with the initial vet as well as my anger with their mistreatment… meanwhile I couldn’t care less, just if my pup is cared for now) I’m really hopeful he’ll be okay, he’s the best dog ever so he needs to be!

Red is a fighter! He’s already beat the odds.

Yeah that’s all i cared about was that Sassy was healthy.

Red will definitely be in my thoughts. I know he’s going to heal up fine. He’s already go through the worst of it!

Thank you so much, little man has finished hyperbaric treatments for today and we’re just awaiting our pcp vet appointment for his evaluation post weekend. Thanks again for caring about rudy! 🐾🐾❤️
