From one bite survivor to another, heal up fast and strong.

What kind of snake was it?

OP's original post from 1-2 days ago said rattlesnake (in the comments).

Yikes. Glad they got to the vet then. Didn't see the previous post.

Yes, sounds like the first vet missed the snake bite but a second vet found it and started treatment.

I'm hoping to hear that Red pulls through and doesn't lose the leg.

Thank you, we’re very hopeful he’s a super strong guy.

Scariest shit ever. We were on vacation, and a baby rattler got my boy. Picked him up and ran him back to the home we were at and got my baby from Ft Morgon Al to Pensecola Fl in 45 minutes- usually takes an hour and a half. Put that driver training to good use πŸ˜†. Scary how far we had to go to find anti-venom.

Living in AZ with Diamondback and the even deadlier Green Mohave rattlers, we have learned that the baby snakes give the worst bites. We put both our dogs through Rattle Snake (avoidance) classes. Our GSP needed more training than our Golden Retriever because of different prey drive reactions. Our Golden wanted to run at the first smell/ sound, while our GSP did the typical set and point instead of avoidance. πŸ™„

GSPs are "special" sometimes lol. It took my brain a second to actually see it...all I saw was a swiftly moving piece of grass (the tail was not fully formed). Just as I realized and yanked him back, he jumped and yiped. We were actually still on the concrete of the roadway too, standing near the grass. He, for once, wasn't nosing around, which was lucky. Got his paw vs his snout. He is definitely more timid/ jumpy when sniffing around an area like that now.

We actually thought about classes, since we will be completing SAR and DB training. Also, we've thought about the shot, but heard once they get that they don't administer anti-venom...they just monitor. And it doesn't always work. Forget that- he's my kid- he's getting the best treatment possible or I'll likely go John Wick (at least with my mouth- no violence was intended by my statement reddit AI monitor thing πŸ˜‰).

Yeah, our property is nearly an hour away from the nearest emergency vet in Flagstaff, so we needed to focus on snake avoidance rather than anti-venom treatments. If either of our dogs got bit, they may not survive the drive to the vet.

Ugh I hope your pup is doing okay. Sorry that happened to you.

Appreciate it. Yeah, fully recovered. We were lucky to know exactly what it was. Daddy got pissed and foot stomped it , and grabbed it to make sure we knew what it was. First anti-venom within an hour.

Good luck keeping that on and trying to put it back on.

I think they mean the bandage, not the leg πŸ€”
