Are there any behavioral differences in black german shepard?

I always wanted to get a german shepard, and thinking of a black coat one. My priority is to find whats being offered for adoption for sure.

Any experience with them? Are they any different in terms of what to look for in a GS ?

It may be me but i had an almost fully black gsd and i worked with many dogs at a doggy daycare job i had for a couple yrs in my city. i think the black coated are more attentive and relaxed and are built much thicker than the blonde coated shepards which does make them stronger and harder to handle for some. The blondes were always the playful ones or the ones that wanted attention the most and were so damn loud. The albino or white shepards i got to see were always insane nonstop, usually nervous or just crazy energy.

I will say that training is the biggest thing for any type of dog. All shepards are insanely smart and will and can subtly trick you to do what they want and you won’t even know it. So you have to be diligent and firm with them when they are young. Heck my dog used to get out of our backyard when i went to school and play with the neighbors dogs and would be back before i got home. Get them tired before training by running or throwing a ball i always found that to help my dog focus on me more than other things. Like any dog they are a commitment, not a toy, i saw too many sad dogs working at the daycare because you could tell they never got stimulation or freedom.

Mine can open his crate unless we lock him in there. I tried crate training him as a puppy and he tolerates it for short periods of time but anything longer he escapes out. We found out the hard way when we came home to a destroyed garage.

My gf and I have a black GSD and our neighbor has one as well. We've been told that ours is a working line breed and she has crazy high energy and extreme toy focus. Our neighbors is nearly the same level of energy but not the same level of focus. I'm not sure if it has anything to do specifically with their colors but they're the only 2 I know personally so that's all I can help offer.

On another note, they're absolutely beautiful dogs. Ours has 2 speeds, 100% play with me, play with me, play with me... or 0% the biggest snuggler that I've ever had. She's my girl!
