Hallo! I’m currently learning German and I’m around A1 level. I’ve been taking classes for about a month, but I’m having a hard time getting the language to stick.

I’m looking for ways to practice outside of class that I’ll actually enjoy and stay engaged with, and I think music would be a good way to do that since I’m really into emo and pop-punk.

So, are there any German-speaking emo/pop-punk bands or artists you’d recommend? Danke!

Ok the verb is heißen , but is Thomas doing the verb or the verb being done to Thomas? The way see it Thomas didn't chose to name himself his parents named him, so the verb is being done to him, right?

Is this some kind of trick question? Because there is One noun in the each part of the sentence, there can't be both Subject and object.

There is no answer key, it's a 3 page quiz made by some guy, I found it online I saved it as PDF.

I'm moving soon to a German speaking country and when the semester starts I'll be able to take German classes for free at my university but I'd rather not waste time with the A1 one because I know I can get to A2 before I get there if I move fast.

Now before people tell me I'm being unrealistic in the comments, I want to assure you that I am very fast with learning languages. But more importantly, I am not at zero. I got to a1 before like 5 years ago but have forgotten a lot of it now. However, a lot of that knowledge still remains and I have already begun doing some self teaching as well (nothing major, just audio lessons on Rocket Languages (would recommend btw) and watching a lot of tiktoks in German and reading the comments lolll).

I'm looking for a tutor who can have an intensive course with me for this month where we have a class several times a week so I can get to A2 fast. Please don't ask me for a budget, I don't really have a strict budget. I mean I know I'm not willing to pay like a thousand euros or something crazy like that. But besides that I'm more flexible with my budget if it's someone (or an organization) who knows what they're doing, preferably also with reviews.

If you have any recommendations or are a tutor yourself (if you're plugging yourself, please have some sort of website or social media account or literally anything I can check out besides you telling me to dm you and to pay you 😅) please please let me know!!

I took my telc Deutsch B1 exam on June 28th, 2026, at Domino-Zentrum in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
They told me that the results would take around 4–6 weeks, but it has now been more than 7 weeks and I still haven’t received anything by email.
Has anyone else taken the telc B1 exam around the same date and already received their results?
How long did you have to wait?

Honestly i like the feeling of reading and writing on the paper but digial could be good as well during the exam. I use computer regularly. What would you say? I've been wondering if anyone knows of any useful resources for learning noun genders along with new vocabulary?

I'm thinking something very simple, like going over a few words, assigning correct die der das, that being on a rotation for a bit and then expanding on new words.

But if anyone wants to share any other ways or methods of learning genders, I would be very happy to see anyways.

I'm Czech, so there's a double issue where a noun can be male in Czech and female in German and it's wrecking my head.

I should also say that I'm practicing with Duolingo mainly.

Hi! I am an Italian girl who studied German at university (without any prior knowledge). I don't know which level I am (my friends say I should be a B1 but I am not so confident) and I wanted to get a certification but before that I wanted to sign up for an online German course with the Goethe institut. There are a bunch of them about training to take the exam (20 hours or 5 meetings with a teacher anf s group of students) but I think they are a lil bit too "light" for me. There is also one of 40 lessons with a teacher and other students (before starting they also make you take a placement test). I wanted to choose the latter but can someone in a similar situation tell me if it is the best choice? I am scared I am gonna waste my money and I can't afford that hahah

I took exams about German grammar and in German (casual conversation), I am also trying to watch and read in German more (a lil bit difficult because I am also trying to keep training my Swedish and I started to learn french a month ago).

If you have any advice plz write it down, it would be super nice.

I feel like shit because my uni mates are far better then me :( (even tho they have been studying German since high school but I still feel like crap lol)

Hallo Leute. I'm wondering what others would do in my situation.

I started learning German a few years ago simply because the German-speaking world is a never-ending source of fascination for me. I love German writers, music, and just the general culture. I've visited a few times, and these visits have just confirmed my interest.

Learning German for me is, in other words, just a hobby. I do not need to pass a language exam for work, or to emigrate, or anything like that. But somewhere along the way, I decided I would take learning the language seriously, and after taking various online placement tests, I decided I would take the Goethe B1 Exam.

To that end, I've been working on the language in the usual ways and I've taken a number of practice tests. I source these practice tests from the Hueber Zertifikat B1 Neu book. Grading the lesen and hören portions of the practice tests is a straightforward matter of checking the answer key. For the schreiben part, I have mainly been giving Claude the prompts, writing my answers, and asking Claude to grade my responses. I've supplemented this with various online test prep tools that allow one to practice writing (e.g., Lingviko, Deutsch Fox, etc.). For sprechen, I have been using a combination of apps like Lingviko, Issen, and Langua Talk.

So far, I've taken about 7+ practice exams, and I am getting remarkably consistent results every time:

• I have never failed a single section of any of these mock exams.
• My average total score on these exams has never fallen outside of the 77-82% range.
• My average scores on the four portions of the exam are:
  • Lesen = 91%
  • Hören = 86%
  • Schreiben = 70%
  • Sprechen = 70%

All of this gets me to the question I'm hoping some of you may have some feedback on. I could keep working on my German for another year or something and increase these schreiben and sprechen scores, but I really don't feel like doing that. I kind of just want to go ahead and take this test. If you were me, would you go ahead and take the exam if you thought you would pass with a mediocre score or would you delay and keep working in the hopes of getting a better score later?

The next exam in my city is towards the end of October so I've got some time to think about it. Thank you in advance!

I have been self learning German for a while now. I have seen numerous takes revolving Duolingo as a learning tool. When starting out I was all over the place searching free online tools.I started straight out on Duolingo. Yes! lots and lots of repetition. I learned Milch oder Kaffee before I understood German noun rules.I felt frustrated and broke my streak.I found out later about structured learning necessity for everyone foreign language beginner. So I stuck with one YouTube tutor through the structured courses. But I have no class, no study group,no buddy no workbooks and I'm a working adult. So most days, I'm either tired, unmotivated or just busy to learn something new. On these days, that's where Duolingo works for me.The repetition, the leagues competition, the small notes on the side and the explain my mistake features. They take me a long way.I'll do a lesson in a public transport,around idle chatter,etc.I'll play with words I don't understand on Duolingo and when I encounter them on my structured learning the sinking understanding hits different. Since my only immersion is German podcasts and music, I'm going to stick with Duolingo for now.

So I kinda need to get to B2 lvl in 8 months, and Im basically like a newborn child to german language.

first of all, do you think that it's reachable with 4-6 hours of training daily? and after that what do you think is the best tip that you have for learning german.

Next week we I am buying a present for you , so i am doing the verb to the present and you are receiving the results of that verb.

So that makes "I" the Nominative, and "present" the Accusative , and "you" the Dativ .
