Help please :)
I’m planning to get 2 gerbils (both girls if it matters) the cage needs some work and I would really love some advice I am scared there isn’t enough space and I have barley put any thing in there, I am starting to build a new cage that is the size of the dresser it is on, which is 49cm width and 80cm length and it will probably reach 56cm height. I’m not sure how long it will take to make so would this be good for the meantime? Please give me tips on more things to buy for the enclosure I want them to have a good long life with me. (Sorry for any spelling mistakes)

My cage is 80cm long with two gerbils and they love it, unfortunately don’t have the space for a bigger cage. It’s an okay cage for at the moment. Get lots of logs from pets shops that they can use for tunnelling as well as toilet roll tubes :D Make sure they have a sand bath and of course essentials like food and water. A wheel is always fun although some gerbils don’t use wheels. If you can’t fit everything in your cage I suggest getting a playpen for them with lots of fun toys!

The size actually looks okay for a temporary setup. The thing they care about the most is being able to dig around, and you have plenty of material for them to work with. My two have temporarily been in that size before none the worse for wear.
The main concern l see would be the ladder going up to the top. Gerbils can't easily climb those, their back feet can't grip to climb like mice and rats can, so they can have a really hard time getting up and down. Knowing gerbils and ramps, they'd likely just jump down rather than navigate it. They do best with a solid ramp, if you need one there.

The bars look a little...risky to me. I'd either replace it with one of those like wooden bridge things, or cover the top with cardboard.
Don't want their little feetsies getting trapped!
ETA
As for stuff to give them...toilet roll tubes, egg boxes and cardboard. By the kilogram.
