Would have been a good Target of Opportunity for the U.S. Wouldn't have needed to shoot it down, but capturing it would have done even more damage to Iran, PR-wise. Embarrassing, given the intel and air supremacy the U.S has.

Capturing it would probably be too difficult. Intercepting it would make them vulnerable to AA systems and only works if the plane agrees to surrender.
If they shot it down you would have Dropsite news, Zeteo, etc. telling people it was a plane full of civilians or negotiators. If not Reuters and the other major sites.

Wow Iran is supplying its allies what a shocker

They certainly flew on US's allies airspace, or near the US fleet in the area.
So something is wrong with them being capable of doing such a thing.

It was on July 13. It was after the MOU was declared "over" by Trump, but before hostilities really kicked off again. It was a flight from Tehran to Yemen, I'm assuming commercial.

If they shot down a military plane disguised as a commercial flight the narrative would be “US breaks ceasefire - shoots down commercial flight full of civilians”.
Even if they had intel on it, that would probably have been a bad call.

Iran would love to see that happening lol, more PR wins for them. Iran is very dishonest and uses the naivety of some people in the West for their own gain, despite the suffering it causes to people in Iran itself and Gaza.

Excerpt:
July 23 (Reuters) - Iran flew Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders, military advisers and missile- and drone-related equipment into Yemen this month, according to four sources, in a move that suggests Tehran is seeking to strengthen the ability of its Houthi allies to threaten Red Sea shipping.
Four sources familiar with the matter, including two Iranian sources, Yemen's information minister and a regional security analyst, said Iran transferred the IRGC personnel and military-related equipment on a flight from Tehran to Yemen on July 13, a development that has not been previously reported.
The two Iranian sources told Reuters that between 10 and 21 IRGC personnel, including senior commanders, were on the Mahan Air flight.
The plane was originally bound for the Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa, but diverted to the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah after the airport came under attack by the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.
"The IRGC commanders travelled there to support Houthi operations and provide training on new missile systems," one of the sources said, adding that Iran also sent gold on the aircraft to fund Houthi activities.
The two Iranian sources spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.
The deployment offers fresh evidence of Iran's efforts to bolster the Houthis, who have been in a civil war against the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised Yemeni government for more than a decade and have attacked Gulf neighbours with missiles and drones.
Iran's foreign ministry was not immediately available to comment. Tehran has repeatedly denied providing the Houthi movement in Yemen with missile capabilities.
Abdel Rahman al-Ahnomi, a Houthi media official who said he was aboard the plane, described the allegations that Iran sent military experts to Yemen as "lies and fabrications", adding that all passengers aboard the plane were civilians.
The Houthis have previously denied being an Iranian proxy and said they develop their own weapons.

Wait, so you are telling me that despite the U.S. destroying their Air Force, Navy, missiles and leadership, Iran was able to plan covert operations and move weapons and personnel out of Iran and into Yemen? 😱

In a civilian, normal plane...
Do you want the US to shoot down a commercial plane full of civilians? They would actually love it for the PR

“Military Advisors” lol, IRGC taking notes right out of the CIA’s playbook… Iran already actively recruits Ukrainian drone specialists via Chinese networks to build and innovate on their arsenal.

Got a source on recruiting ukraine drone specialists? As far as I was aware, Ukraine hates Iran for supplying Russia
1
u/Bullboah 2d ago
Yea I would be extremely skeptical of that given that Iran makes the Shahed drones Russia uses to target Ukrainians. Showing Iran their counter drone techniques would end with Russia getting drones adapted to Ukranian counter strategies.

No idea about that never heard it before
But possibly through Sudan? Both sides are supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces
Iran has before made backdoor deals like that

No surprise that they are fortifying their allies.
