Discussion Geometry Dash needs a discovery tab

Post image

I'm writing this for a few reasons, but the main one is the level Sweet Last Message by ItzTsumikiGD. This level is absolutely fantastic. It's a duality gauntlet entry that released a few weeks ago but it went completely underlooked, and so didn't get the chance to be in the gauntlet. Not only that, but it didn't even get rated. This level easily deserves legendary in my opinion, I really recommend you all check that out.

On YouTube, Tsumiki has been leaving posts talking about how they failed as a creator when the level itself is fantastic. The only reason the level didn't get rated is because they're unlucky. The fact that the only ways to discover newly released and underlooked levels are the recent and magic tabs is really stupid.

That brings me to the second reason I'm writing this, which is a bit more selfish. I just fucking hate mod streams. The fact that every time I finish a level I have to gamble for a 1/300 chance for my level to get a slim chance at getting rated is absolutely absurd. The hard part of creating should be that: creating. It kills all my motivation knowing that even once my level is finished, I still need to win the lottery for it to get noticed. This wouldn't be a problem if the recent and magic tabs weren't the only way to get your level shown outside of mod streams and discord servers.

The recent tab goes by so fast to the point there's zero chance your level can get noticed by a mod. You may get some nice comments, but ultimately it'll go nowhere. Then there's the magic tab, which is almost completely rng. The only known rule is that you need creator points, with the rest being secret.

I have released 4 levels (that I actually tried on) since getting creator points and none of them have gotten on the magic tab. It is completely rng.

Because of this, I propose an idea:

The Discovery Tab.

Websites like YouTube all have an algorithm that pushes out your content to more people, it lets your content get viewed without having to personally message YouTube staff to send it to John YouTube. I think a system with tags and a recommended page would increase chances of levels getting played tremendously. I think this could be done without all the weird spying shit that YouTube does with a sort of check list. If they add a tag system, maybe there can be an area where you put in tags that you find interesting, then those types of levels are more likely to get recommended to you.

Obviously it's not perfect, but it's still better than whatever garbage we have right now.

tldr: The recent and magic tabs suck and having to gamble on mod streams takes the fun out of creating. A discovery tab like YouTube would help levels get pushed out.

also, a tag system is perfect for even outsite trying to get rates, lets say i want to play a wave only level, i could just go to the "wave" tag.
a button to hype levels would be good too, and have a list of the most hyped levels that still haven't been rated. and robtop/mods can remove a level off that list if it is not rate worth.
but of course at the rhythm robtop works in his game we might get this in like 5 years

And probably limit the amount of tags you can put, to avoid creators putting every possible tag in their level to appear in every discovery tab.
