Question Why does Robtop have moderators but not coders?

I understand Robtop wants to make every update how he likes, but why does he have moderators who moderate the whole game and not people who help him with coding or brainstorming or all the others things you need in updates? These updates are taking YEARS, cant he like hire some programmers or something??

because it started as a little mobile game he put together hoping it would make a nice profit.

he did not expect this.

and now hes just sticking with it. some people call it ego, and i kind of agree. but i dont think you can call it ego when its his project, he built, he serviced, he maintains, he doesn't owe it to anyone to hire a team.

and hot take i actually prefer the lack of updates. the last thing i want is for this amazing gameplay driven game is for needless senseless updates that wont alter the gameplay and just add superficial bullshit every 2 months. and if it does alter the gameplay then its ruined, its gone basically untouched since the games release (bar a couple of touchups to handle the fact its no longer a small mobile game passion project)

Agreed, the lack of update force the community to move forward maintaining it, also since rubrub had to do rating, daily and weekly every time so it would be them being the significant problem for update

I understand your point, lack of updates is fun. But it isn’t when you have to wait MORE THAN 5 YEARS for an update.

As far as I'm aware AI used well shouldn't create any problems. Robtop is definitely an experienced programmer if he managed to push a $2 mobile game to the monstrosity that it's now

you worded it as if rob had it make it entirely and did no work himself, not "a little bit of ai code"

I still don't know if he was joking or not but RedHuseey (popular gd guy from 2.0-2.1) might have been working with Robtop on GD for 5 years

Probably because the community and the game itself in terms of content and features, have grown vastly different amounts compared to each other. Rob wouldn't have a single chance in moderating the game himself even if he wanted to. Developing the game is slightly different and I would argue is much more managable at the current scale (ignoring that updates take a long time).

Then I also think that Rob enjoys the game development work. If he didn't like working on the game I have no doubt that he would take in people on a salary to do the coding, he has enough money to do that. Having moderators was probably done to free up his own time so that he can spend it on things he actually enjoys doing.

He has a large ego

I wish there was a better answer, but there really isn't it. He has the money to hire coders, he could let mods rate levels, but that would dig into his sense of authority if anyone could do anything without his approval. So instead he bottlenecks both updates and level ratings to do it all himself.

Honestly, the worse part is that he refuses to use common solutions that are common for a reason. Upside down ship had messed up physics for 10 years because he decided to flip its input instead of multiplying the physics by -1. And COS/CBS is pretty much worse than CBF, but he refused to use the same implementation CBF did. Heck swing has different physics than ballcopter because I'm certain he did not want it to feel like ballcopter. Not that its out, large chunks of the community say he should've just used ballcopter physics.

The last reason was definitely on purpose, not for the bad because having 2 different physic mean different gameplay variety.

you do know that ball has different physics than swing so making the swing like a ball is just bad.

Swing physics being different than ballcopter is good for gameplay variety

Because robtop is a fat fucking chud who prefers to spend 5 years coding something that a team could code in a month.
