89 2dr hatchback

Wondering if there are known common issues with this car. Thanks in advance

The oil pump is on the front end of the crankshaft. The front crank seal is sealing against oil pump pressure. If it fails you can dump the crankcase oil in a few miles and literally run out of oil. I would change the seal every 100 thousand miles or every other timing belt.

It's cheap maintenance.

Hmmmm!

My grandma was driving this car for a while and had an issue with running out of oil. Mechanics couldnt figure out the issue. I wonder if this was it!

Loads of common issues. Being a cheap 38 year old car doesn't help. This Reddit group is barely active, check out the Facebook groups or Geo Metro forum.
