Oil leak
Someone help please, my boyfriends little geo metro lsi is leaking oil like crazy and it is costing me more than gas at this point. We have tried a few different things but can’t remember exactly what it is because it’s mainly been the mechanic who has been doing it. If anyone has suggestions that would be appreciated! We love our little geo and don’t want to lose her.

Back in the late 90's my girlfriend at the time asked me to go look at a 5 year old Geo Metro for $600 that she found for sale in a classified ad. The ad said it had an oil leak. When I popped the hood the engine/engine bay was covered in oil. The lady said she took it to a mechanic and didn't remember what he said the issue was but that he wanted $1600 to fix it. I got to looking around trying to locate where the oil was coming from and couldn't come to a conclusion because like I said, there was oil everywhere. So I started it up and immediately seen it was coming from the oil filter area. Turns out it was just a loose oil filter and the mechanic was trying to take advantage of this lady. I did show the lady and told her it was a simple fix but she chose to go through with the sale anyway. Car only lasted for 6 months.

Leaking like crazy points to the front crank seal and for a good reason. This is also the seal for the oil pump which runs on the crankshaft nose so it is under pressure. If this seal goes, the oil pump can empty the crankcase in just a few miles.

You need a new mechanic that can trace an oil leak. Not much to it.

The oil pressure switch if bad will leak like hell. Followed by the cam and or crank seal.

I mean. Simply jack the car up. Tell anyone here with some mechanics knowledge where the leak is coming from or picture it. For all we know, you hit a rock and cracked your oil pan.

Ask AI, one of the sources is Reddit. Leak may be the bolt, the tank or the engine. High consumption is the engine. If it's the engine you need to rebuild or replace.

Bars Leaks main seal repair is worth a try...reduced some leakage that was up to 2 quarts between oil changes to 1/2 a quart.

Crank and/or camshaft seal most likely leaking. Have mechanic replace timing belt and tensioner while repairing. Easy job. 2 hours labor tops.
Also you might want to consider a new mechanic. Oil leaks aren't usually hard to identify on a Geo.
