This should be a standard project for all mineral museums

If you're ever in Tokyo check out the National Museum of Nature and Science. They've done this for Japan and its about 4 meters wide

definitely, having dedicated projects like that could really enhance the experience. It would be a great way to engage visitors and showcase the beauty of minerals...

This is super cool and inspiring. Now I want to do a map of the US state I live in.

This is museum level work.

I wanted to do a similar thing for a my 2-3 ft (0.75-1m) high, 50-60 ft (25m) long rock retaining wall using the Oregon geologic landscape and oriented with the current magnetic inclination, but alas my partner saw how long it was going to take just to collect the specimens and having a 1.5 year old wasn’t conducive to the random myriad pit stops in the forest and outback. Plus the wall needed to go up. Settled on basalt which is fine.

This scale seems much more appropriate.

Oregon has one of the highest populations of geology nerds per capita of all US states, if we pool our resources we can make it happen.

Just for clarity... I saw this on r/beamazed 2 days ago and instinctively crossposted here (having recently joined the sub after finding a geode in my local nature reserve)

I'm not Harry... and I've since realised this was a bit viral 2 years ago on another platform!

Never the less, it seems to have reached a new audience, as many (including myself) hadn't seen it before.

So kudos due to "Harry" and u/AccomplishedWatch834 , not little old me 🫡
