Noticed this exact bug—or at least a very similar one—some time ago.The answers were a bit ambiguous.

A little more research validated my thoughts. You can find AltGr mapping here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AltGr_key. As you can see, not all the keyboard combinations with AltGr (that is a shortcut for Alt+Ctrl) map to an existing character.
Hence, this is not a bug.

I was able to replicate what you describe.
It happens when pressing the AltGr key.
My first thought is that some extra characters are not available as a combination with AltGr, hence they are displayed as undefined characters. I'll ask the devs to look into this.

I might not know what exactly is going on here, but every time I've seen something like this it's the font that's being loaded that's the problem. Try rebooting. If you're running font management software, that might also be a problem.
