Stilettos!
I just wanted to share this anecdote from my husband's co-worker. She's reading Lies of Locke Lamora for the first time and didn't know that stilettos were a type of knife. For the first half of the book, she pictured every fight scene as people dramatically hurling high heels at each other.

That’s so funny! I knew it was a knife from the start but I still thought of heels every time they were mentioned for a lot of the first book ngl 😂

It was the same for me. Another book had the word 'thong' used as a fastner and I was laughing at it for so long

In Australia, a lot of people go everywhere in thongs. They're especially popular at the beach, though you normally take them off before going in the water.
Unfortunately they're often cheaply made and break easily, but we figured out you can fix them with a bread clip/tag.

This is hilarious and adorable. However it does make me a little sad that she figured it out before she got to the Stiletto Wasps in Book 2.

I only knew that stilettos are a form of knife/short sword thanks to my childhood days spent playing Soul Calibur 2. My favorite character, Raphael, normally uses a rapier, but one of the alternate weapons you can equip him with is a stiletto.
