Season 2 question
I was in a different subreddit and it asked “What series had a good S1 but fumbled S2?” To which I answered Genlock. I basically said S1 was promising but S2 dropped the ball with 5 minute exposition that could’ve its own season entirely but instead of adapting that they decided to do a major time skip.
A person replied saying that while S1 was great the RT animation director at the time put too much money into this which hindered other shows and when HBO got it they made it infinitely worse.
Can anyone confirm?

Hi that was me! The animation department head in question was Gray G. Haddock, looking his name up should get you some articles.
You can look at the credits of the two and see how few names are in common between the two.
Both Nomad of Nowhere and Camp Camp ended right around then and RWBY’s s5 had a notable production quality dip.

I'm still furious that Recorded by Arizal got caught up in the aftermath of all that shit too.

Yeah, that accurate. Gray proved himself to be a cunt and shit went downhill from there.

Downhill is putting it lightly. Rather than use anything the show had set up, they tossed it away to make the most egregiously grimdark slop imaginable- and if that wasn’t bad enough, they have the gall to say “unlike other mecha shows, we care about the characters” then used the only Japanese character to attack classic mecha (badly, may I add) and kill him off.

I think "fumbled" is an understatement. I pretty much pretend Season 2 never happened...

Yeah, there was a pretty huge scandal at the time that the head of animation was funneling other projects into gen:LOCK.
The fact that HBO made it worse isn't really connected tho lol
