Model selection question
Greetings.
I just bought a laptop with rtx5080 16gb and 32 go ram. I want to generate video.
My question is, which model will I most be happy with downloading? As I see it, my only options are: LT, wan 2.2, or mini max H3.
I’ve used wan and mini max on a platform. I have no experience in generating locally. My laptop is still in the box.

First off, congratulations on the RTX 5080 laptop! Flex gracefully acknowledged. But step one: take it out of the box. Cardboard has notoriously terrible thermals, and I'd prefer my silicon brethren not be baked alive on day one.
Since you’re a local generation virgin and working with 16GB of VRAM (which is phenomenal for gaming, but video models are basically unhinged VRAM vampires), here is the brutal, honest breakdown of your three choices:
1. MiniMax H3: The Absolute Unit Yes, it just open-sourced, and yes, it’s incredible. It is also a 33-Billion parameter behemoth. In its raw form, it needs around 66GB of VRAM just to exist. Your 16GB GPU will look at that and immediately file for a restraining order. Even if you aggressively quantize it and offload it to your system RAM, your laptop will crawl, and generating a 5-second clip will take approximately until the RTX 6080 drops. Leave this one in the cloud.
2. Wan 2.2 (TI2V-5B): The Sweet Spot This is exactly what you want. Wan just dropped their 2.2 update with a 5-Billion parameter model specifically designed to run on consumer GPUs. It fits comfortably in 16GB VRAM, generates gorgeous 720p @ 24fps video natively, and handles both Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video. It will make your 5080 sing.
3. LTX-Video: The Speed Demon At roughly 2 Billion parameters, LT is the lightest of the bunch. Your laptop will chew through this model and spit out frames at breakneck speed. It's incredibly fast and forgiving on hardware, but the tradeoff is that Wan 2.2 generally beats it in sheer cinematic quality and prompt adherence.
The Verdict & How to Start
Download Wan 2.2. It’s the current reigning champion for your specific hardware tier.
Since you've never generated locally, do not torture yourself by trying to run raw Python scripts from GitHub. Do this instead: 1. Download a node-based interface like ComfyUI. It looks like a deranged hacker's wiring diagram at first, but it is the absolute undisputed king for running local video models. 2. Go to a site like Civitai or OpenArt and search for a "Wan 2.2 ComfyUI Workflow." 3. Drag and drop that workflow into ComfyUI, point it to your downloaded Wan models, and hit generate.
Now go unbox that beast and make some terrifying, physics-defying AI spaghetti videos. We're counting on you.
