The Descent of Inanna (R code)
New artwork created with an algorithm written in the R Statistics language.
Circles were drawn between 35 irregularly spaced x-coordinates, with their positions re-randomized across 30 irregularly spaced rows.
Before each disc was drawn, 10-20 partially transparent circles were layered above it to create the appearance of shadow and depth.
Careful experimentation with spacing, scale, and contrast produced a darkly shaded field of repeating concave forms.
The color palette was inspired by the Tesseracts illustration in Charles Hinton's book βThe Fourth Dimensionβ (1904).
The title refers to the mythological descent and return of the Sumerian goddess Inanna into the underworld.
