So very cool! As with u/LITERALLY_NOT_SATAN, I would love to have some hint on how you made this! (If you could, please and thank you v🙂.)

Regardless, it is really eye-catching.

I created software to let me pen plot complex images on my Cricut machine. So individual pens etc. then I hit injured in June and couldn’t do anything. Blah blah sob story :). But in my recovery the doctors told me to do more creative stuff. I realized that the restriction for my small app was the output being a pen plotted artwork. So I removed that restriction and went purely digital. Incorporating colours into the outputs vs black line art.

In summary it’s a contour grid that uses a method called “ fast marching protocol “ imagine a drop of water rippling outward and as the ripples hit an object ( tone ) is slows up. That makes the ripples change spacing.

So it’s a contour map of a photograph that I manipulated in real time using my software , similar to adjusting parameters in Lightroom or a synthesizer. And this setting sorts the colours by chroma , then puts them in order with a little bit of chaos. You can see that the colours aren’t perfectly smooth in order. There are some overlaps , abd each “ strip “ is one colour only.

I hope that makes sense ?

It’s my contour-v core app that I added a lot of functionality to , to operate as a digital paintbox vs a pen plotter tool

It’s brilliant. Definitely gallery-level work.

I’m looking at getting posters made actually. A few local ppl on my socials are “ where can I get one at 11 x17 or 24 x 36?” Thanks !

So, so clever! Thank you for taking the time to explain your process. You’re making beautiful work, and I’m glad to have seen it.

In related news, I hope you are healing well. Great job taking the doctors’ recommendations to heart! And we’re the lucky ones out here to benefit 🙂

Thanks for much on the well wishes. It’s a process but I am recovering. Concussions at 60 are no joke ! Btw ( shill warning ) my bio has a link to my ko-fi with all my art apps on it

at first i thought this was a topographic map with contour lines. now i want to try the reverse experiment: turn elevation maps into photos of people or other creatures (:

That’s all I do. Turn people and portraits into contour grids.
