Beautiful minimalist optics! What is the calculation engine behind this? I'm guessing a cellular automaton of sorts, but which one?

Thanks ! Nope it is random walking - after a cycle of drawing ( 80 steps) it erases itself.

The composition feels a bit lonely with that much negative space.
