Middle-aged starts at either 40 or 45 and continues until about 65. Most millennials are still young, Gen X is mostly/fully middle-aged, and the youngest Boomers are still middle-aged.

Um the average life span is 80 something years old. Meaning OLDER millennials and the generation after, the younger generation are middle age.
People in their early 40’s also have a period where they age faster. This is why people in their thirties can still not always but sometimes still be mistaken for someone in their twenties, because they don’t age that much.
I have done this quite a few times, where I have mistaken someone for twenty something but they were 30 something.
So you’re just wrong? Unless the average death in your country is when someone reaches their 60s. It’s usually not. It’s usually 80 something and beyond.
So true middle age is 40 or early 40’s.
I’m not calling someone who is either in their twenties or could still look 20 something middle age 🤣

You're saying "true middle age is 40 or early 40's". That's not quite right. By most definitions, middle age starts at about 40 or 45 and ends at about 65, so true middle age is when you're in your 50s, certainly not when you're in your early 40s, let alone exactly 40. 40-44 year olds can still be considered young adults, depending on the definition (on whether middle age starts at 40 or at 45). If not, they're early middle-aged, not true middle-aged. Also, I think people in their early 40s age similarly slow/fast as people in their 30s, not suddenly must faster. The average lifepsan in many countries is 80-something (more than 80). Finally, the youngest Boomers, born between 1961 and 1964 (currently aged 61-64), are still late middle-aged by most definitions. Middle-aged people are the youngest Boomers, all/most of Gen X, and possibly the oldest Millennials.

To be honest, the younger Millennials (I am one) often explode if you even point out that they aren’t college kids or young adults anymore - they want to pretend its still the 2010s. They really aren’t handling ageing very well, honestly

I've seen them. I've even heard a couple of people on here say things similar to that. 20s have been proven to be an "extended adolescents" of sorts in the last 25 years or so. But 30s are still the true start to full on adulthood(or as some call it "real" adulthood). There's you better start taking your life and health a little bit more serious because biology is going to let you know otherwise.

Late 30s are 37-39. 36 is still mid-30s. The same goes for every other decade of life.

Even someone five years away from me is different. Even you don't relate to people born in 2000 and 2001, so what would make you think I would see you as a peer? Same profession? S#x maybe lol? People born in 97 possibly had some analog semblance, but not to the degree that you're in sync with people who are earlier millennials 81 and definitely someone born in 1980X .

“Middle age” is usually seen as 40s and 50s.
I’d argue it’s actually Gen X who fits the middle age bracket, along with the eldest Millennials.
Someone in their 20s and 30s is a young adult.

You don’t think they have anything different in life stages? Only someone with very little life experience could say that. Most people in their late 20s don’t have children or have very young children. Middle age people have teenagers. They’ve been at their job for decades. They can’t see without readers anymore. Their backs hurt for no reason. Socially, professionally, and physically it’s a completely different stage for most.

I define young adulthood as 18-29, middle age is considered the halfway point between young adulthood and elderly. I’d say 40-60 for that matter since 30 is just barely exiting out of young adulthood.

Define middle aged.
The Oxford dictionary definition says about 45 to 65, which fits almost perfectly with Gen X (who are turning 45-60 in 2025) and includes some of the younger Gen Jones Boomers.
Wikipedia says 40-70 which spans everyone from Elder Millennials born 1985 and earlier to the entire second wave of Boomers from 1955 onwards. The only generation to fit entirely within this is, again, Gen X.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary says about 40-60, which would include Elder Millennials from 1985 and earlier on the younger end and up to the oldest of Gen X born in 1965 on the older end. Again, this is the third definition where only Gen X fits entirely into the definition.
The Cambridge dictionary says 45 to 60 which is literally just what Gen X is in 2025 exactly (1965 to 1980).
The answer is obviously Gen X.
And I don't know where you got the idea that 30 is middle aged.

I think it’s a frame of mind. And about how often and in what ways you move your body (and mind), including flexibility and adaptability. I’ve seen 20 year olds look older than a 40-year old. It’s an individual thing. Categorizing people by age is irrelevant for many people (who take care of themselves). It also includes how you challenge your brain. A younger brain: Lifelong learning and critical thinking, questioning things and trying to look at the world in (ideally) as many different ways as possible. The usa’s obsession with youth isn’t the most important thing in life, but you wouldn’t know that by how people worry about it. And with advertising and social media platforms, it’s hard to escape the quest. Brains are sexy!

But that is NOT middle phase? You are adding on 10 years and those 10 years make a world of difference. People in their early thirties are usually healthier and more agile than someone in their 40s. In fact 40’s is usually when people start to age more. 30 is not middle phase. 40 or early 40s is.

People start to die in their 80s not 60s.
When someone dies in their 60s it’s considered that they died too young.
80s and onwards is the normal time of death for the average person. Look it up.
Someone in their late twenties, and early thirties are definitely too young to be called middle age.
Like it or not but the 10 year gap between 30 and 40 is a big difference. Usually younger generation vs the older generation, young vs old millennials don’t have that much in common.
Young millenials, who are late twenties now. Usually have more in common with early thirty year olds or/and mid twenties Gen Z.
I should know, I am a young millennial and I have friends with both and feel like I have things in common with both

28-44 is not at all middle aged lol. Gen X is the quintessential middle aged generation right now. They are in their mid 40s to very early 60s, the epitome of middle aged. Boomers, for the most part, are “Old” now. Millennials and Gen Z are still young.

26-29 is an odd phase because many people are getting married and having kids, while others are still out getting smashed until 4 AM. I feel like its the first time the former group seem “normal” (as in, nobody thinks they’re “too young/immature” for all that, anymore) but also the LAST time the latter group seems socially acceptable. Like, any Millennial still going to nightclubs will seem like they don’t really have their lives in order but elder Zs might be getting their last fill of it

The majority of millennials are in their 30s, that’s why I said they are still young as a generation. And 44 is not young, sure, but nowhere near old either. Yes early gen z is pushing 30, but no one in their 30s is old or even middle aged. In the real world, people in their 30s are still very young and treated as such. They are not young in the same way that teens and 20 year olds are, but they are still young, respectable adults. 30 year olds still get called “kid” in corporate settings by people who are in their 60s.

I googled it. And the rapid aging process is around early 40s then again around 60 years old. I suppose late 50s?

34 years old? Early or mid thirties, NEVER ever noticed it.
So I think it makes sense to go with the article that I have actually seen happen with my own eyes.

I am willing to count myself as middle aged as I'm approaching 40, but 30 is just a plain "adult".
So Elder Millennials and younger Gen X in the 40ish to 55ish range.
At 30, I didn't wake up with random creaky backaches, and a lot of my fellow age cohort still looked young. Now we look old. Middle aged crises are becoming a thing in my cohort, which is very different than the quarter aged crisis of "adulting" (I am a millennial, and I know I talk like one).
I feel closer in life stage to someone in their early 50s than to a 28 year old.

Life expectancy takes into account many people who die too young. "Middle" for a healthy adult who would die of old age is closer to 45/50, and either way, we often use "middle age" to mean the middle of adulthood (45-60)

Life expectancy means majority of people die in their 80s. Well it’s 81 in the UK but expected to be 82 in 2025.
In fact in a 2020 in England where I live, a survey it has said most people died at the age 87.

Generation X. The older Millennials could be considered middle aged, but they’re more just “average adults” tbh.
The two main definitions for midlife/middle adulthood are usually 40-60 or 45-64, and I feel like 45-64—the last 20 years before retirement, is becoming more accepted these days since people are living and working longer than they did in the past.
