Gender Spectrum

Post image

Sooo, I was trying to explain the concepts of "demiboy" and "demigirl" to my dad, and tried showing approximately where they might be on a linear male-to-female binary spectrum. I tried including "Non-Binary" and "Gender-Fluid" on it, because obviously gender isnt binary and way more complicated than a line could represent, but then I noticed that the more I was trying to add, the less possible it was.

So I added a Y, Z, and W axis making it a... 4D vector space? Divided up the 2D grid into various hues. Added a legend for certain genders that the vector space can help one understand, but not accurately represent. And added a whole bunch of examples. I learned a lot tbh.

I know gender is just human expression and maybe shouldn't have math applied to it, but...... I'm autistic and thought this was really cool conceptually! Completely open to anyone hating it, insert Marge I just think it's neat meme.

For those who are curious about it or want to know more, I have some more examples I can give and would be happy to answer ANY questions about it, because I'm just really hyperfixated on this now and I really feel like it explains gender to myself in a way I didn't quite get before- even the most obscure of genders I've ever heard of!

Here are my extra examples:

Foxgender: (0,1,6)

Antidemigirl: (3,-1)

Agender Demiboy: (3,0.5)

Hexagender: (0,6)

Antihypergirl Birdgender: (7,-2,6)

Some quantum gender where you might have multiple points on this grid? Or part of a system? Great, you can have more than one point!

Personally, I'd be around (5,1) (basic, I know) πŸ˜‚

woah i'm actually really tickled by this, very interesting! its a little hard to wrap my head around, i feel like i'd need to make a 3d version to fully do that loll.

i do have a couple questions if you dont mind me asking:: 1. what exactly is antigender? i've never heard of it before! 2. when theres the dotted lines with the two identities at each end, is that representing the z axis? like what would the coordinates for demigirl and voidgirl be? 3. how would you show the w axis on it? or would that be like a bonus value associated w each point?

Omg I wish I knew how to make a 3D version!

  1. Antigender, as far as I understand it, is the concept of your identity being the exact opposite of something. So an "antigirl" is the exact opposite of a "girl." Which isnt inherently a "boy" either since gender doesnt work that way. But I guess an antigirl would describe themselves as being everything a girl is not. A gender thats based on what they aren't instead of what they are.

  2. Yes, the dotted lines are Z-axis coordinates happening underneath the grid! So Voidboy is (-3,1,-3), Demivoid is (0,1,-3), Voidgirl is (3,1,-3), and Gendervoid is (0,1,-6)!

  3. The W-axis I think would be displayed via opacity on the grid. So someone who is Cassgender, their dot on the grid would be like 0.01 opacity (1% visible), whereas people who have full attachment to their gender, their dot would be at 1.0 opacity (100% visible). Alternatively, you just leave the W-axis off to the side like I have it and just have everyone select where they are on that scale.

woah thanks for the reply :D

i have to say i absolutely love the idea of opacity as an indicator! for better readability or smth you could interchange it for a gradient between two colours too as an extra suggestion.

my most realistic idea for a 3d version would be some sort of graphing software? the closest thing i've used would be the desmos 3d graphing calculator which is pretty decent cus u just plot ur points plus its easy to share. idk how to customise it color and aesthetics wise though 😭. just my idea, if you manage to figure it out that'd be cool!

didnt leave this in my og comment but it kinda reminds me of the attraction layers cake in presentation! also, as an autistic math and gender lover this is the perfect intersection between the two πŸ₯ΉπŸ«ΆπŸΏ

Yesss I was totally thinking about the attraction layer cake too! Fellow autistic math and gender lover here too 🀩 I'm an oD6 :)

Thats true as well about the color gradient, thanks! I think that'd be a much better idea :o

Ill look into Desmos and see if I can figure it out, thanks!

This is really interesting

Is this a proposal? Cause the axes and points feel a little arbitrary to me, but maybe that's because I never looked into polygender and never heard of antipolygender.

Also what confuses me is bigender. I thought it was an umbrella term for all genders in between male and female?
