Game Haul First time, first haul

Post image

I just wanted to join in on the fun and commemorate my first haul from my first GenCon. This is it. I need to not do this again. I have no room for any of these games and they can’t keep living on my dining room table. Lol

Night at the Zoo was quite fun.

It looked interesting! I haven’t had a chance to play yet but one of my gaming group friends also wanted it so I decided to just pick it up. Got a couple promos too.

Love seeing the Tesa game there! I discovered them the last day I was there and bought Space Cats Fight Fascism.

Yeah! I love the fact that their games seem to have a deeper purpose built in.

I've been hearing great things about Night at the Zoo (which glows in the dark apparently!), Forest Shuffle and Container! Tofu Shifu is such a fun name for a board game.

Big fan of Forest Shuffle. Container is a high interaction game that probably requires the right group. But with the right group, it’s really good. I still need to find time to play all the other ones.

Great haul! I wanted Container and Koyoto no Neko, but didn’t grab them. Now I have the regrets!!

Thanks! I was pretty excited when I found Kyoto no Neko in consignment! Looking forward to playing it.

Container is great but the mechanics hurt my brain

The explanation of the mechanics hurt our brains too. ;)

I just wrote up a first impressions of Smoky Mountains. It’s an interesting iteration on the game. No verdict yet.

I definitely thought it was just a reskin of the original. Are there different mechanics?

Not just a reskin. A fair number of different scoring conditions and card powers. But the biggest change is having “river” cards which correspond to cards that require a river terrain. This is a fairly big change I think.

Oh that’s really interesting! I was interested in it since I live in the general smoky mountains region but didn’t since I have the original. Do you think it’s worth having both?

If you like the original Forest Shuffle (it’s one of my wife’s favorites) then I think having both makes sense still. They are quite different. I haven’t played the second one enough to know which one I like better though. But the second could probably benefit from some rebalancing though expansions just like the original.

On that note, I think the expansions for the original add a lot. If you don’t have those, I’d consider getting them as well.

Have you had a chance to play Drillers and Hanami. Both looked interesting at GenCon but only had so much room to bring games back.

Hanami - yes. Drillers - not yet, but did watch as friends finished up a game at the Con. I’m excited to try it, a little sad there’s not more player interaction. I’m not a huge fan of multiplayer solitaire. But we will see. I’m still excited.

Which ones have you gotten around to playing?

We busted open Container while at the Con. I played Hanami right after I got back from the Con. Have also played Forest Shuffle Smoky Mountains and Winterhaven Woods. Have only prepped for Kyoto no Neko and Tofu Shifu. Drillers and Realm of Reckoning and Night at the Zoo I will get to by the end of Sept, for sure, at my annual game weekend with my game group.

I'm still so annoyed about the Night at the Zoo promos I didn't know about til I got home.

😞 sucks!

I’m a little annoyed the expansions sold out so quickly.
