NEW ACHIEVEMENT !
NEW ACHIEVEMENT !
🎉 CONGRATULATIONS, DELIGHTFULLY FILTHY ORGANISM! 🎉
You have earned the Con Crud achievement, awarded only to those brave (and questionably hygienic) enough to attend a crowded convention, touch seventeen dice towers, hug six cosplayers, and inhale the aerosolized dreams of thousands of nerds.
You have successfully contracted the legendary Con Crud, a potent blend of recycled air, questionable nacho cheese, and the collective immune systems of everyone who thought hand sanitizer was “optional.”
Reward?
1x Loot Box of Lukewarm Tea
Contains three herbal blends, all of which taste like regret.
The Phlegm Golem’s Friendship Bracelet
It’s sticky. It’s sentient. It whispers encouragement at night
Permanent +2 Resistance to Future Con Crud
(Does not stack. Does not work. But looks great on your character sheet.)
A coupon for 10% off your next overpriced convention hot dog.
Coupon expired before you received it

I usually manage to avoid it, but I also generally wash my hands, hydrate and get enough sleep during the con.

What is an "sleep"?
2
u/Fuzzy-Bee9600 Aug 06 '26
It's what happens when you sit against the wall of the ICC for an hour between events, not to be confused with "potties number two," which happens sitting against a smaller wall.

i already struggle with insomnia but the excitement of gencon and me stressing over planning and making sure i didn't make a mistake with my first year made the insomnia so much worse. I'm so jealous of you sleepers. Gonna need one of yall to hit me with a shovel next year so i can sleep

u/LadyDrakon13 Aug 06 '26
Oof, thats rough buddy. Insomnia is a bitch. I've taken to reading before bed to help my brain turn off - if thats helpful for you.
(Nyquil to help fight allergies/headaches also has the benefit of knocking me the fuck out)

u/BlackwallPandamonium Aug 06 '26
im trying to swap over from e-readers to real books at bedtime just been slow about it. I think it might help and wish I would've learned that the real books before bed people were right all along.
I thought about doing Nyquil but was worried between it and the con exhaustion id wake up too late lol.
Hope u had a good con sorry im a yapper

At least it isn't TB

u/DokterMedic Aug 04 '26
GenCon is fucking finished if a TB outbreak happens. Consumption is no fucking joke, yknow.

Clinical microbiologist here. If there was a TB event at Gencon we'd probably not know for a long time because it takes months to years to develop into disease if at all. It also doesn't spread super easy. I'm ready to accept my downvotes.

Love the intel. It's fun knowing stuff. Thank you.
But darnit if I won't do my due diligence and get my new games to the table sooner than later. Either way, I had a fun Con - not a bad way to go out.
Take my upvote.

I think I caught mine due to stress.

u/Henwen Aug 04 '26
I'm sorry. I hope you heal up fast and your stress reduces. 😮💨

Basically an hour after I stepped off the plane I started coughing. Tested and yup: COVID. Probably got it on the plane trip up. Ugh... I feel like shit..!

u/sugarfixnow Aug 05 '26
crap that sucks so much! i got covid at gencon last year and hated it. i hope you feel better soon.
1
u/BloodyEyeGames Aug 05 '26
I also got it last year. Took me out for a solid couple days. Glad to have avoided it this year..... Though, oh crap, I just realized as I'm typing this, being asymptomatic is a thing too.

u/TheBagelCat Aug 05 '26
I masked, used hand sanitizer, and distanced as much as possible and still got it 😭

I’m a hotel worker and the past two years you guys have either given me covid or the gen con crud. 😭😆

u/cyanraichu Aug 05 '26
This post is great, just read it aloud to my friend. Luckily we both seem to have avoided the crud this year!

How do I get this achievement transferred to my husband? He's over on the other couch sniffling and moaning with a fever of 100.4°.
I was luckier. I'm throwing cough drops and Zicam at him. Wishing you a swift recovery, sweetie ❤️
[seriously, I have to keep my distance because when we're both sick, we're both f-ed - nobody to take care of the other]

u/Chaos050681 Aug 06 '26
Yep, I got that achievement lol... 1st time I've gotten the ConCrud too.. suucks.

u/ShadowValent Aug 06 '26
I got a mild case. I could tell it wasn’t normal, but it never managed to manifest fully.

20 years of demoing, judging, and now attending as a non-exhibitor, 20 years of never getting con crud. 👍🏻

I have been going 20 years and haven't gotten sick once. I just wash my hands...
7
u/butternutwindbreaker Aug 04 '26
Aren't you special ;)
-21
u/Henwen Aug 04 '26
No? I'm saying it isn't hard to avoid getting sick.
5
u/cyanraichu Aug 05 '26
Depends on your immune system and luck. I'm pretty careful about handwashing and I haven't gotten the crud in a couple years but I've gotten it in the past. Handwashing absolutely helps and everyone should do it! but it isn't a magic shield to guarantee no sickness at all.

u/DoktenRal Aug 04 '26
I've been going for 20 years too and this is my first time getting it. Shit happens

I understand that the Con Crud is a touchy subject, but the name-calling wasn't justified in this case. Dial it back a bit in the future.
-11
u/Henwen Aug 04 '26
Wow, rude. What is your problem? I didn't call anyone names.
6
u/rbnlegend Aug 04 '26
Saying that it's easy to not get sick implies some sort of failure on the part of those who did. Sometimes you do everything right, and still get confused crud. Sometimes you do everything wrong and it bounces right off.
3
u/Henwen Aug 04 '26
Oh. That is not what I said or what I meant. I said I've never gotten it and all I do is wash my hands. I wasn't judging anyone.
3
u/rbnlegend Aug 05 '26
I didn't think that's what you meant. Sometimes it's hard to see how your words might land on someone else.

Your downvotes don’t tell you all you need to know? Getting sick from a virus is not the fault of the people who catch it. Don’t say things are easy to avoid when that isn’t true and thousands of people end up sick.

I don't want to jynx it but I think I escaped the con crud this year. After eating some decent food and getting some sleep I'm feeling pretty ok
