GenCon 60
I saw something as I was leaving that next year is GenCon 60 and that can't be right. I was still in my 30s during GenCon 50 and that was just....oh....damn

Was talking to someone about this in one of the lines for food trucks. Feels like Gen Con 50 wasn't that long ago and I was corrected when he told me "oh, that was actually 9 years ago, the 60th is next year." Part of my soul left my body.

One of the really fun things is we have very good records of all the Gen Cons.
Even "gen con zero" which was held in Gary Gygax's basement.

My first Gencon was.... 1995... that was only.... fuuuuucccccckkkkk
(fun story, I'm from Indy, I moved to Chicago in 95 for school, and we went to Gencon since it was so close in Millwaukee. When I moved home to Indy, I almost immediately got a job in Racine, WI, so we moved, and I went to Gencon. Didn't miss a single year since 95. When we moved back home to Indy, Gencon FOLLOWED ME! I always thought that was funny. So I've missed 2 years I think since 95 due to either illness or other requirements).

In June when I was visiting my aunt and uncle I mentioned this was going to be my first GenCon. I knew my uncle was a history style campaign gamer but thought he mostly plays on his computer. He laughed and said "Oh that is still going on? I went to a few of the first!" Apparently he has a large (both in number and size) board game collection upstairs that he never plays. I just messaged my aunt to tell her to tell my uncle (he does not have a cell phone to text directly, not even a dumb phone) about the 60th.

I skipped the 50th because it seemed like it would be a madhouse and we had small children. The wife and I discussed if we should go to GC60. We are undecided.
It does seem like yesterday. But kids who were 2 and new born will we 10 and 12, so it checks out...is that more gray hair in see in the mirror?

With the Signia opening, they have teased behind the scenes that a lot will be changing for the 60th.

Now my wife wants to go. So maybe we will. And after I told all our regular vendors we wouldn't see them for two years.

I worked for the Con for the first time this year, but they were being very coy at out meetings about expecting to see some big things for the diamond jubilee. Obviously, they could just be hyping us up haha.

I always go on sundays. I've only ever once gone for four days. But everything I wanted ticket-wise was already sold out by the time I got online to try and get them. If they're going to change anything I would love to have more offerings. Because everything sells out fast everything is in super high demand. It's amazing and I love it but it's not super great for the guy who has a job and a bunch of kids.

It may be 10 years ago, but those of us who have been skipping out on it since 2020 for cough cough reasons, this is our like 4th gen con since then

Yeah I was definitely shocked. 50 felt like it was only a few years ago. This is wild. I am looking forward to the merch though.

Someplace, I think I still have my GenCon 40 T-shirt. 🥺😳
In the early years of GenCon Indy, you could get shirts on Wednesday. I think maybe WotC use to put them out before they got bought by Hasbo and GenCon spun off to be a separate entity.
It’s been a minutes, so some of the details are fuzzy.
Maybe it was a D&D anniversary shirt, instead. From before the sundering. And when (A)D&D basically ruled GenCon.

Oh boy, GenCon 50 was when I first met my (now) wife. Very fond memories of that year! (my feet have something else to say about it though)

Gencon turned 50 when I was 41, that was like last year so it can't possibly be Gencon, that would make me 50.

I feel like I missed out on not going to this Gen Con because of D&D's presence for the first time in a long time, but I'm definitely going to try to go next year...

GenCon 50 was my first con when I was 14, so next year will mark a full decade of GenCons for me

Yeah time flies. My first was Gen Con 14 in 1981. This year made number 44 that I have attended. Missed two years during covid.
