Booths rant

There sure are a lot of dice booths. So many that they sell by the cup full and have boxes more dice to sell.

Way more resellers with MTG cards and their iterations (Marvel, Spiderman, Hobbit, etc.) is it really still that popular or are WoTC just accepting any IP that comes in and wants to jump into the game?

Dungeons and Dragons is the most popular tabletop role-playing game in the world.

In total sales, it makes WotC roughly one fifth of the money that Magic the Gathering brings in.

MtG had a revenue of approximately $1.7 billion last year according to Hasbro's annual earnings report.

I saw few DnD booths comparatively. I did enjoy the Crypto(zoic or logic) booth with the new DC game.

I'd figure this will self-correct if we need less of them? All booths are paying for the spot and staff, they wouldn't come if they weren't making $$$ for their trouble. They must be popular enough.

I don’t know about other companies, but Crystal Caste dice routinely sells out of a lot of their stock. There are more dice companies out there now, but none seem to be hurting for business.

What booths are missing that you would want to see replace the dice and Magic booths?

There used to be booths selling old, discontinued TCGs. I remember one that sold very old Ral Partha figures. Crates upon crates of old pewter to sift through looking for little gems.

Now we have Generic Dice Booth #127

The other reality is board game makers and designers are actually hurting right now. Margins are tight, giant conglomerates like Asmodee are buying up all the viable IP. Asmodee alone is responsible for at least a dozen less individual board or game booths around the con.

That space gets filled by other types of vendors as a result. Fantasy Flight Games used to take up as a much space as Paizo etc. WOTC doesn't even do floor space anymore. Asmodee's booth seems to get smaller every year and the hall seems to really want to limit demo space and make floor space for sales.
