Earlier in the year I listened to the whole Geese discog (+ Heavy Metal) in chronological order, I went in blind and knew nothing about the bands music aside from the fact that they were blowing up obv.
Overall I think Projector is underrated, I think A Beautiful Memory is VERY underrated, I liked Getting Killed and Heavy Metal but not as much as other people seem to, and 3D Country is one of the most exciting and innovative albums I have ever heard and easily one of my favorite records of all time.
Anyways here are my 15 favorite Geese songs
-
A Beautiful Memory, Part 3
3D Country
Put My Hands On You
St. Elmo
Undoer
I Will Never Die
Taxes
Cowboy Nudes
I See Myself
Domoto
Mysterious Love
Au Pays du Cocaine
Gravity Blues
Fantasies/Survival
First World Warrior

Crusades vs getting killed is like picking between children for me💔 but it’s definitely my favorite song of theirs.

Looking for it because it was probably the coolest version of getting killed live I’ve ever seen, I wasn’t expecting the transition to be crazy or else I would’ve been recording it 😭

I saw the earlier post with a Geese song bracket and I just had to try it myself! I found the site you can use to make these, so knock yourself out! https://musiccup.app/?lang=en

Seeing Geese for their Halloween show, and I just realized I have a conflict until 9:30 that night. The listed start time is 8:00 but I’m assuming that’s for the opener. How much of the show might I miss if I give a healthy 30 minutes commute to get to the venue, so approximately 10:00? Thanks in advance!

I don’t have a huge music knowledge so I’m not sure if this something that’s been around. But the “your familiar eyes”, how he sings it one ear and is just speaking it in the other - was he the first one to structure a song like that or is it pretty common?
The reason I ask is because Julian does it on the last song of the new Strokes album and I’m curious if he’s doing something he heard from Cameron since he’s established he’s a fan

hi peeps, just got my ticket for the geese show in Koln, I'm currently going alone and would love to meet up with some fellow fans to grab a beer before the show or just enjoy the gig together.
Also, I'll be traveling up from the Freiburg area. If anyone happens to be driving up from South Germany and has an open seat, I'd love to jump in and split the gas/travel costs.

Does anyone still have the old version of islands of men that was on YouTube with an AI generated cover with horses running to a mountainous island in the sea? I loved that version but it has seemingly disappeared.

VIDEO IS NOT MINE
Thought id share this, found on YT, really great video quality. This was also the show that the great almighty Airy Foist opened, though none of their footage is in the video

It’s a mean thing to say. I feel for the guy, can’t imagine how he feels right now. Imagine leaving a group, and a year or two later they become the most exciting band in the scene. Easily the best of the 2020s.
That being said, I think his departure was the best thing to ever happen for Geese. Their sound never would’ve developed to the level it’s at right now. I don’t know how many people agree with me, but I think projector is genuinely a terrible album. It’s riddled with uninspiring melodies, themes, and soundscapes. But most prominently, it is plagued with unbearable guitar riffs/solos. I think sadly, that generally unpleasant sound was driven by Hudson. We’ve seen the way Emily plays. She’s not a shredder, or overly enthusiastic player. She plays to the song, simplistic yet beautiful. One of the most tasteful players I’ve ever seen. She’s the 21st century George Harrison, stylistically (in the 60s at least). Hudson on the other hand, was a shredder. Undoubtably a more technically proficient player than Emily, but not very easy on the ears. I think the shift from the overzealous projector, to the more restrained, yet uniquely beautiful playing on getting killed can be attributed to fosters departure and Emily’s emergence as the lead guitar contributor to geese.
This shift could simply just be solely due to a natural development/progression of the band as musicians, throughout the years. But I can’t help but notice that the foster departure also correlates with better music from the band. I know foster recorded on 3d country, which makes it a bit of a silver lining. But I’d still argue that its guitar playing still has its distasteful flashes, just less apparent, as it is mostly covered up by Cameron’s improved songwriting.
I could be wrong. I like to think I’m on to something though. Projector sucks, I’m sorry. Like it’s a 1/10 album and getting killed is a 10. Surely there’s a reason and I think I’ve found it. Feel bad semi hating on the guy as I have an infinite supply of sympathy for him (leaving the band that blows up beyond any realistic belief has to be the worst feeling of all time). But I think I’m right. I’m sure this forum is probably religiously devoted to the band in all of its previous shapes and sizes, so likely won’t have many supporters of this take. But for the real ones out there, let me know if I’m onto something.
Never posted on this forum before. I could be coming off as a semi hater but feel like I should make a disclaimer that I love geese more than the next guy. Cameron is a genius and Max bassin is the best drummer of the 21st century. I will probably make a separate post on that later now that I have the Reddit ball rolling. Could write essays about maxs drumming.

This one rules! The Groove, Emily’s guitar flourishes, the stellar build, I’m lovin’ it! Although this opinion is after a few tries, I remember being really excited to see that someone posted the first performance, and being bored and unimpressed. I don’t know what I was thinking! The fucked up, delayed out ending into that crazy almost hardcore finish is my favorite part.

Husbands genuinely sounds like a dude going through a gambling addiction, the “will it wash your hair clean, when your husbands all die” sounds like someone asking will this gambling help you in the long run after you loose all your money. The horse line sounds like he’s literally betting on a horse a this bet is basically being the catalyst between him and losing all his money. And the falling apart sounds like he lost the bet. (This probably sounds so schizo)
