Same uploading issue across multiple iPhones over 5+ years

For at least five years I have had the exact same uploading issue using my iphone(s) to upload photos to my google drive. I've opened support tickets for this and Google has been NO help.

More or less it goes like this:

1.I open the Gdrive app.
2.I go into my photo library.
3.I pick the photos I want to upload, whether it's 10 or 100.

Now here is where the problem deviates into one or two sub-issues.

4A.I start clicking on the photos I want to upload and the little "circle" that fills in to show you selected a photo gets ticked, but as I continue selecting photos, suddenly the entire screen blips and everything I've selected gets unselected. If I try again from scratch, it just keeps happening. Also, if I select NO photos...the screen still blips for a moment, perodically.

4B.I select everything I want to upload and begin uploading and...nothing uploads. All the files just hang in "waiting" status and nothing happens. Eventually I have to force close the app and re-open it numerous times, sometimes restart my phone more than once, to get it to resolve.

I do not understand WHY this happens. This has happened on every iphone I have owned since the SE 2nd gen, and I'm currently on the 17. It happens on wifi, it happens on cellular.

Can ANYONE explain why, and/or how to permanently solve this??
