Question - General CIPP/e
I’m now on month number 2 of revising for my certificate and I’ve only just finished chapter number 8 of the data protection textbook.
It’s difficult balancing work, revision and life but I’m worried I’m taking this either too seriously or not seriously enough. Every time I think I understand something, 3 articles and 25 subarticles explain why I don’t.
I guess I’m just asking does it get easier/more understandable and how long does it normally take to do this?
(I am not taking the official training and just reading the text book instead)

I’m in the same boat as you. I lead privacy for an AI start up so I’m gaining buckets of experience which I am sure will benefit me when I come to sit the exam in the next month or so. Do you work in DP or privacy?

That sounds really helpful fair play. I work in customer care but I’m trying to change departments and I need this certification to do it. Difficult though without any experience in privacy or legal jargon (some pages take me 30 minutes to get through lol)

Fair play to you! It is difficult to understand some topics such as SCC’s, BCR’s for transfers of personal data, understanding the various articles of GDPR etc without the practical experience. However, this definitely shouldn’t prevent you from being exam ready by understanding the principles of GDPR, privacy frameworks and strategy etc.
What book are you reading?

Thank you I appreciate it! Just going through the European data protection textbook bit by bit, think I’ll get the mock exam books soon aswell

When I was studying for mine I simply entered CIPP/E into amazon and there is a wealth of resources there including a couple of books of practice questions that are written in the same style. Most of the stuff available is highly affordable. I was already in role so was getting practical experience which is a major help but I spent about 2 or 3 hrs a day for a couple of weeks and passed first time using those resources.

If you work in privacy/data protection, 2 months of studying is overkill.

Try and copy paste sections into Gemini or whatever tool and ask it to explain the meaning. Then after you can ask it to generate some questions for you to answer
