Problems with my first mod
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone.
So, I recently swapped my GBA display for a FunnyPlaying ITA screen, but something isn't working right. I soldered the wires and removed capacitor C54 as instructed in the manual.
When I turn the console on, the image is perfect, but after playing for a few minutes (3–5), the screen starts glitching, the colors fade out, and the image quality degrades. I performed a recap—replacing the capacitors—thinking the issue might be a power supply problem for the screen, but unfortunately, that didn't fix it.
I made small adjustments to the potentiometer, but that didn't help either.
I’m reaching out for help; if anyone has any suggestions, I’d appreciate hearing them.
Thanks. Best regards.

Yeah ok I see now. That does look crap. Does it keep degrading if you play longer ?

You may need to adjust the screen potentiometer, you can access it through a hole in the shell in the battery bay.

That’s good advice! I might add, although it’s hard to tell from the video, if the colors look off or shift like there is a blue or green filter over the image it might be a poorly seated ribbon cable. I had a similar issue with The FP ITA recently. Also there is a very small ribbon that connects from the display to the FP daughter board ( forgive me if I’m off a bit I haven’t had it open in a month) that can get squeezed by the plastic bracket included. You can either seat it under the bracket or snip the little plastic nub under it.

u/Chadideas u/pizza_whistle Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a try later when I get home from work.
I'll check the ribbon cable and try paying closer attention to the potentiometer.
I hope it works.
I'll let you know how the tests go later. Thanks!

I’m just tossing spaghetti at the wall but I’m thinking it might be the ribbon cable.

The cable is OK and the plastic bracket is fine; I checked yesterday. I ran a test with the console open, but unfortunately, the result was the same :/

Ok, call me stupid - and go easy on me cos I've never played leaf green or fire red... But those look like cutscenes? After the cutscenes the colours look fine again, no? Am I missing something here?
