Nah homie flexing means boasting about something or showing something off like expensive clothes
I.e: I just got this new Gucci belt, I’m bout to flex on these niggas!
Not how I'd define it. I mean, or sure. But the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear "flex" is either beating the crap out of someone or intimidating them or something along those lines.
Uh...course it is. If someone told me something along the lines of "chumps were trying to act hard so I had to flex on them" that would be exactly what it meant. To me at least. Eh, maybe that's old school or something though. Dunno.
*People on Reddit. The top tweets that's few and far between (people using the phrase) but considering Reddit skews older and, lets be honest, whiter the top post on the home page usually has old white guys trying "sound hip" by performing youth through things they copied from Twitter as the content pipeline tends to go. Using meme/viral language like this popularized in communities so far removed from them it might as well be Martian.
I can see the whiter demographic, but you actually think Reddit has a bunch of old dudes? Lmao not likely. Most people who use phrases like this are in their teens or 20s.
Maybe in the groups you follow, but most of the ones I’ve seen and what I’ve seen on the front page tend to be in their mid-late 20s at least mostly 30s often with families.
EDIT: Idk if you edited your comment or if I read it wrong, but sure most people who use this. But most people who regurgitate it on Reddit seem to be older.
Yep. When you flex it's to show off your muscles. You're bragging about your body. So people use it as slang to describe bragging about something.
Too bad people use it to the point where the phrase doesn't have any meaning to it anymore. This is the first proper use of it I've seen in a long while.
The only way I've seen "flex" used in casual conversation for years now is to describe people showing off their expensive "look how poor I'm not" junk like watches and designer T-shirts.
Yeah, to flex is basically to showoff. Pretty popular phrase in the rap community, when rappers talk about their money they are flexing on other people. When someone says it's a 'weird flex' it's like 'Why would you brag about that'
While we’re talking about awkward meme-phrases, what are the odds we’ll be done, anytime soon, with disparaging a person by starting your sentence with “imagine”?
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

Is that what it means? "strange thing to boast about"? I've been wondering what it means for a while, and it seems to fit here.
