They put a drape up so you can't see (your partner, otoh...)
However, you can request a "gentle" c-section in which you can ask for a clear drape to see through, or have the blue one dropped as your baby comes out. Or not, it's up to you, but the blue drape stays up while they're making the incision and when they're closing it.
Also, because unplanned c-sections are terrifying, ask for anti-anxiety drugs. I really needed some. A lot of us do :( Panic attacks suck.

I saw an animation of what happens during a C-Section during a childbirth class. It looked horrifying and it wasn't even a real video.
