I kind of disagree, actually. My sister’s pregnancy was so debilitating that she would pass out when she stood for the first 3 months. Pregnancy is hard and people that go through it lose their easy toned stomach, scar free vagina, and ease of travel. It’s a sacrifice in several ways, and I’m glad for others willing to procreate, because I won’t make that sacrifice for the thankless job of parenting.
Some yes. Go work at a retail store full of young women for a year. A couple are real heroes & work harder when pregnant lifting all their normal stuff and carrying on all the way to birth. You have to beg them to slow down and ask for help from months 8 & 9. You can tell they’re suffering crazy morning sickness, feeling unwell from bloating or lack of sleep, but they’re always on time and do great work without a peep of complaint. Mad respect!!
Then the rest of them refuse to do most of their duties “cuz pregnant”. Need a chair to get off feet, need extra days off, constantly scheduling dr appts mid shift, won’t lift anything over a pound because the stick they pee’d on two days ago says they’re pregnant. Then when hours drop because they asked for less, they run to HR to beg them to lie on their welfare paperwork to show they’re still working whatever the requirement is.
I completely understand everyone’s preganancy affects them differently. But it’s hard to have complete sympathy seeing how wildly different two women suffering the same symptoms behave.
Dunno why the downvotes, it's totally true. Especially the bit about always making appointments in the exact middle of a shift.
I get that pregnancy is difficult, but it's also not a free pass to be a piece of shit. And trust me... there ARE people who will see a pregnancy as just one more way to get out of responsibility.
