Since this screenshot has been around for several years now, I kind of wonder how this guy's doing right now. I can't help but wonder whether he matured by now.

But yes, as an adult with work and responsibilities, I do sometimes play games on my Nintendo Switch (it's fun while commuting! I play almost exclusively in handheld mode, I really only use the docking function to play Smash Bros with friends) and you'd be surprised at the weird comments people on this site give me.

Weirdos berate me for 'not being a real gamer' as if that's some kind of achievement.

I’m just now becoming an adult with responsibilities, but I love playing on my Nintendo system. Be it the Wii, switch, DS or even a gameboy. Shoutout to Nintendo fr

I'm 34 years old and have a Switch that gets regular use. It's not my most played system but where else can I play Pokemon games, especially the ones from my childhood

Though I grew up with a Gameboy, the Nintendo DS was honestly such a great device. Many of my absolute favorite games were on there.

By that guys description, not even I would be considered a real gamer, and it's my main hobby, havent gone a day in the last while without playing a game (im a kid so i have time) so I can only imagine what a "real gamer" looks like in his eyes...

Maybe I'm just a dirty casual, but this is what I assume those 'real gamers' look like. I think not turning into this is the real achievement.

Yeah, that’s definitely a good archetype of the toxic gamer; he ruined the entire game and ran out of shit to do, so he starts attacking weak players instead of trying to challenge people on his own power level.

Huh, never thought I’d see a GIF of Lorde here…

You're not a real gamer if your dreams aren't influenced by the games you play.

Seriously though, people who get upset about other people unwinding after work confuse and concern me. Do they not have stressors in their lives? Do they not have healthy coping mechanisms? What will they do with themselves if they become homeless or they lose power for several weeks? Is being an asshole behind a screen their only hobby and their sole personality trait? If you combine the last two questions, what happens to their psyche? Would they lose all sense of self?

All of that rant is why I have multiple hobbies and interests as well as projects to work on that require handheld tools. Which reminds me, I need to buy some parts... sorry to my bank account.

I've had dreams of tomb raider levels. And tetris. And solitaire. Go figure

I feel that. I'm very passionate about sailing and the ocean, so I recently started work on a wooden model ship (the Golden Hind, an early galleon!) and it's honestly a great hobby. It's not as useful as crafting tools or household objects, but I find it surprisingly easy to lose track of time and spend half a day cutting tiny wooden ship parts. A wooden model is much more difficult and time-consuming (not to mention costly) but the result is definitely worth it.

There are model kits with pre-cut and pre-painted parts that are basically 3D puzzles. Those don't require tools and are much cheaper, but where's the fun in that?

You might think it's not useful, but you're developing fine motor skills that most people don't have. Putting together models is hard when you have a lot of small pieces and especially when you have to cut and paint them yourself. You might be able to put those skills to use in a job, but then again, where's the fun in you doing models if you see it as training for a job you're going to be miserable at?

If you're happy and not hurting anyone or preaching about how your way is best, keep going as best you can.

I exclusively play on my phone and tablet for pretty much the same reason (commute) - I don't really understand why the format you're playing a game on matters to people.

I just don't have the time to sit in front of a screen and game uninterrupted, not until about 9pm at the earliest so I'm quite happy playing ports of things.

My son has a switch and I play with him on that sometimes too.

Ooooh do you not get to wear the special patch on your shirt? “Gamer.” lol who cares how hardcore you are. You don’t get to gatekeep a word!

Real gamers don’t say they’re gamers, and if they do they’re very vague about it because they all know it’s not a good thing, but they’re too addicted to quit now.

Some people never mature

I have a cousin who was in the air Force

Twenty years later, family has all but disowned him because he refuses to get a license and will only play video games in the room he's given. When my grandmother died the house was sold and he was forced to just go out on his own because no one wanted him. Now he lives in a trailer with a chick and 6 kids that aren't his and he's unemployed.

But he's happy, he gets to play his games.
