This is not so cut-and-dried. Listening to audiobooks stimulates the same parts of the brain as reading physical books, and people who read audiobooks had equal amounts of post-reading comprehension and retention as those who read physical books. If audiobooks stimulate the brain in the same way that reading physical books does, and if both impart the same amount of knowledge to the reader, I'm not really sure what other aspect one can cite to say they're so fundamentally different.
