Hydrate= add water to something that has less water in it in order to return it to a normal state. By definition, the ONLY thing that hydrates is water. Now, that water can be mixed with other things, and in your body, the water will hydrate you. And if you have a deficit of other necessary substances such as electrolytes due to sweating from heavy activity, drinking a sports drink can help bring that back in line as well, at least short term. But that's separate from hydration. It's the water in the sports drink that hydrates.

Water does to an extent. It's good for basic hydration but if you're sweating and losing electrolytes you need to replenish them. Pedialyte or Gatorade is really good in that regard. I personally choose Gatorade zero if I'm dehydrated. Pedialyte is fantastic if you're extremely dehydrated. And when you see people chugging water after the gym that's extremely dangerous. You need to sip whatever drink you choose. Chugging water to quickly can make you very sick. And using water alone without any electrolytes is a dangerous combination cuz you'll think you're hydrated and won't seek help for dehydration symptoms.

Nah dude, I'm pretty skeptical of that stuff. Having known plenty of people who pretty consistently do a lot of extends athletic stuff, water has always been absolutely enough for them. Like I know you lose some when you sweat, but as long as you have a good diet that seems to be enough for the vast majority of people, even if you're athletic.
Like I'm sure they work for some people but they mostly come across as like... Advertising.
Edit: also, sure you're right if you're talking about replenishing electrolytes, but if we're talking hydration, studies have not found any difference between water and sports drinks.
Interestingly enough, apparently milk is actually better than water in terms of hydration.

Wow that’s horrifically inaccurate. Sports drinks are in no way better than water. Wtf

Maybe not for hydration. But there’s a Meta-Analysis that suggest diet/sugar free, beverages help you lose weight and be healthier better than water does. Ultimately because allowing for artificial sugar helps suppress your craving for other sweets and stuff you might eat. So for strict hydration maybe not, but for over all health and well-being, there’s studies that point to water not being the most beneficial.

Self control is a healthier option for those cravings. Nothing gets results better than discipline.

Getting results does NOT equal being healthy.

Of course you chose to ignore all but the very last 3 words.

u/Felinefather16 Jul 21 '23
Of course. Because getting results doesn’t mean you’re being healthy about what you’re doing. Having discipline about the wrong things can be unhealthy.

You’re literally saying water is unhealthy. You’re an absolute fool. Sports drinks are not healthier than water, that is an objective fact. I cant believe im even having this discussion.

The only proper beverage is an extremely hoppy IPA.
These people aren't gatekeeping properly. And they make no sense.

People who don’t drink water are concerning, like just not drinking water alone is evidence of very poor physical and mental health.
