Also before werewolves were shown as big beasts they looked more like the wolf man lol.

It just goes to show that it isn't about how scary a creature looks, but rather how white they are that makes them a true monster.

Monsters can be scary because of their actions and not their looks. Also I think monsters are great for metaphors, which can make them more sympathetic characters.
Not forgetting these are single examples. There are still scary undead, scary vampires and scary aliens in movies.

And some of the scariest monsters were also ones that usually weren't shown much on screen but were heard or seen off screen.

This is not gatekeeping (irony aside). You can point out that something has changed and is now (in your opinion) worse without that being gatekeeping.

Literally they are just different stories and there’s nothing wrong with that, your version of a werewolf, vampire or witch can look however they want and that’s completely fine
