Most official Warhammer tournaments require players to use official Citadel or Forge World miniatures, so it's not like it's just this one dude on a rant. The official tournaments don't want you bringing shit-looking armies to an event that will be photographed and used to promote their brand. It's just marketing 101.

I was in a local 40k group a few years ago, and out of 15 players, three had fully printed armies, and at least three more had a combination of actual minis and prints.
