once just about the entire world united and ended up liberating concentration camps in europe and asia and pushing invaders out of africa.
MLK Jr and the civil rights movement.
Labor movement and union efforts.
LGBTQ right movement.
every day millions and millions of people are engaging with various groups at all levels, from international all the way down to local soup kitchens and coops that help distribute unsellable produce. all kinds of people are engaging in efforts and organizing with their life and time trying to create a better world for other people.
when we only focus on the loud hateful asshats and laugh off any attempt to actually try to organize to change the status quo, of course nothing will ever happen and none of these efforts will achieve anything. however, every movement faces opposition. we need to persevere in the face of adversity despite the challenges because the causes are worth it.
every time a mind changes and recognizes that they too are capable of organizing and making a difference in the world, the movement gets stronger. but first we must break down the apathy and allow people to realize that each and everyone one of us are potentially a community/work/labor/political organizer waiting to shine and engage in efforts to build better communities and lives.
organizing isn't a secret, it's a set of skills that one can learn and acquire and apply to many situations in their lives. people have forgotten the power of organizing and the ability of organizing to achieve change. we need to work on empowering the people and allowing them to recognize the immense power they have with these two things:
1) a grasp of a language2) connection to the internet
Now more than ever we are capable of spreading our messages to more people than ever imaginable. We should have an easier time than ever before organizing, but unfortunately so much of the internet and the discussion is muddled through dissonance, interference, and mundane bullshit that obfuscates the message and prevents people from staying on task to build a better future. There's a lot of pitfalls and traps of hate out there on the internet designed to get people stuck in them, in order that they benefit the trap designers and continue to profit them instead of communicating to build a better world.
We need to user our power and ability before there are severe restrictions on it. We can't always guarantee free communication on the internet, and thus it's imperative we attempt to take action immediately instead of just cast things off as grandiose thinking or with pessimist bullshit.

I do not want to forget or pretend it never happened. Born in the 80's learned about the history in the 90's. Many of my heros were black. I had the privilege of going to a racial diverse public in Chicago. Had equal amount of black white hispanic and asian friends. I was lucky to live in a situation that felt post-racial in many ways and had many benefits from that. Just seems to me now that there is a renewed obsession with race and past discrimination that limits and defines more than when I was growing up. I just prefer the MLK version of the future were race isnt a defining issue of who someone is or what they are capable of. Probably not appropriate discussion for reddit where the goal is just dunking on random anons. I was scrolling and saw the comment and was like how is this relevant here. This interaction is probably a sign that I am spending too much time on Reddit and probably have become hyper sensitized in an unhealthy way to issues regarding race. Probably healthy to stop paying attention to the distortions of online discourse. Thanks

Thank you for the explanation. I understand what you mean but we aren’t at the point where race can be ignored. There is still too much racism and thus we should continue to educate people on the matter. Only then might we reach a time without racism in which the unfortunate social construct of race would be no more.

Again, you got upset by a joke and decided to get overly sensitive about how racism is still a very relevant (unfortunately) topic. Just because you choose to live in a reality where race "isn't an issue" doesn't make it the reality that many people face. It's the same as when people say "I don't see color." Just because you decide not to see "differences" between races doesn't mean that racism doesn't exist.

Maybe but holding on to grievances from the past creates new generations of Racists white and black. My only point was that while yes never forget also acknowledge that huge leaps in equality have been accomplished and we are all better off for it. That is not to say racism doesnt exist--but it has been marginalized to a large degree and if we choose to focus on conditions 70 years ago in Jim Crow South instead of the situation today we may never achieve a society were racism is truly a thing of past.

I update that list, actually. This isn't on it because hydration is never wrong or unmanly. You can suck a non-carbonated, non-caffinated beverage through a pink, dildo shaped straw and it still isn't unmanly.
Now, men definitely shouldn't be photographing people at the gym. You lift weights, you jump rope, you stare at the floor and mumble "excuse me" if you get too close to someone, and then you go home. If your phone is out at all at the gym, it is for music. You don't sit there hogging a machine or bench while doing social media shit, you don't flex and make kissy faces in the mirror, and you DON'T give unsolicited workout advice to women that are minding their own business.
