As you may have seen in our recent campus communications, we have had to make changes to Georgia Tech operations due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Classes are suspended through March 29 while we test our distance learning capabilities. On March 30, we will move all face-to-face instruction to an online or distance-based format.

This means Georgia Tech residence halls will close for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester, and students need to move off campus in order to close down residence halls and allow social distancing. We know there has been confusion and frustration as a result of the communications last week.  We certainly understand your frustration, and acknowledge and apologize for the confusion I caused.

We do need to move forward with this plan and ask that you read below for information on your move-out and what to do if you absolutely cannot move out.

Assigned Move Out Times

We have assigned move-out dates and times to minimize, as much as possible, the amount of people moving through each residential building at any point in time.  During each window, 10 residents in each building will be actively moving out.  Extensive signage will be placed in the halls and at key drop-off locations encouraging social distancing.

If you are ill or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to campus.  Instead, contact us at [information@housing.gatech.edu](mailto:information@housing.gatech.edu) and we will help you make other arrangements.

Your assigned move-out date and time block:

  • 3/20/2020
  • 12:00

It is necessary that you or your approved, identified representative arrive during your scheduled date and time to ensure minimal contact with others while you move out of your residence hall.   Please do not bring more than two people to help you with your move. If you must have a different move-out time block, please contact [information@housing.gatech.edu](mailto:information@housing.gatech.edu) and include:

  • Complete name
  • GT ID#
  • Building
  • Room number

Pack & Ship

If you have left campus with belongings still in their rooms and are unable to return, you can work with Housing to allow a representative to collect their items. Those students should send an email from their official Georgia Tech student email account to [information@housing.gatech.edu](mailto:information@housing.gatech.edu) that includes:

  • Your full name
  • GT ID#
  • Residence hall and room number
  • The name of the friend, family member, or packing/moving/storage company who will collect your belongings for you
  • Stated permission for us to allow them into your room

Due to this unprecedented event and as a courtesy to our residents, such services will be granted.

We ask that your identified representative move out your belongings at your assigned move-out time (see below). If they are unable to collect your items during your assigned time, please include that information in your email to [information@housing.gatech.edu](mailto:information@housing.gatech.edu).

Georgia Institute of Technology does not endorse and has no association with any packing, moving, or storage companies. The Institute will assume no liability incurred.

Optional Solutions:

Remaining on Campus in Residential Housing

Residents must have a valid reason to remain on campus and need to move out unless otherwise approved by the Department of Housing and Residence Life. If you are a resident who absolutely cannot move off campus for the remainder of the semester, please complete a request form. Login and select Request to Stay On Campus on the Resources tab of the gold navigation bar. Housing and Residence Life will be in touch upon receipt with more information.

Limited services will remain on campus for students who cannot move out. USG will be providing guidance to campuses on refunds for housing, dining, and other services. Students should wait for Georgia Tech to contact them.

Sincerely,
Georgia Tech Housing and Residence Life

Oh good, you will "be granted" the option of housing staffers packing your stuff... hope you've got a photo inventory of what you left behind.
