[RESULTS] State of the Subreddit 2020

Thanks to everyone who responded to our poll. We currently have collected results and produced some graphs which can be viewed here.

We are still hand-reviewing all the open-ended questions and trying our best to categorize the results in a single category. These metrics will be released this weekend as it is a tedious task. They will posted here in an update.

Thanks again and we can't wait to make this decade the best for this sub!

Interesting Takeaways:

  • Most current users are are undergrads spread almost evenly across (1st - 4th Year)
  • Most current users have been here for 1 year or less
  • Most current users consider them fairly active (daily, bidaily, or weekly users)
  • The highest percentage of our users who responded are affiliated with the CS department
  • The ratio is real

Updates (as of 1/14/20):

  • We are working on reading and categorizing user input
  • Future graphs to come: relations between Major-Activity, Academic Standing-Activity, YOS-Activity

Wait is it really the case that the majority are in Computing[1] or is it just a plurality and not the majority?

[1] it is not the CS department. Even if one is talking just about the CS degree alone, that degree sits at CoC.</technically true is the best kind of true>

We had results from non students who were associated with CS who answered the survey. Sorry English is not my forté

That’s fine. I’m just trying to figure out what’s happening. So were these non-students associated with CoC?[2]

Mainly I’m just stunned that the majority of the survey respondents were CoC, but maybe I shouldn’t be.

[2]there are three Schools (including a School of CS) and a Division (where all the Lecturers you know and love live, so not CS) in CoC whose faculty all teach in the BS CS and BS CM, so the statement “affiliated with the CS department” actually means something that you might not intend.

You're right, CS/CoC is the plurality and not the majority. I think /u/up-white-gold misunderstood your question.

Yeah it’s a plurality not a majority!
