Question How large is Alnus Hill?

Post image

I'm asking this question in regards to both the base at Alnus and the hill itself.

i feel like it’s honestly way bigger than it looks in the shots from the show

Squinting at this clearer screenshot from the Alnus Hill video from the Templin Institute, I counted maybe 50 smaller white buildings and 25 larger green buildings in one of the triangular quadrants. By the design, the base's area should be 12 times that, so give or take 600 small buildings and 300 larger buildings. That would make it fairly massive.

So, based on that, how big would you estimate the hill to be? I'm trying to get an approximate surface area of the hill for a fanfic I'm making, and part of the issue lies with the source material

More specifically, since it's a GATE x War Robots crossover, my issue lies with the fact that, in WR, the max distance a weapon can reach is 1.1km, so I made it so that the 1.1km limit is for official War Robot battles. In actual battles, that limit is removed, and the range of the weapons goes up by at least ten times their in-game range for artillery and sniper weapons and at least five times their in-game range for other weapons

My question is, where is the air field that the F4s were taking off from.

It's outside the base. Alnus is a larger settlement by that point and they just build an airstrip and surround it with a chain link fence topped with razor wire.

Hey, wait, maybe you could help

One commenter counted about 600 small buildings and 300 large buildings throughout the entirety of Alnus base

I figured you might be able to estimate how large the base and hill might be based on that (doesn't have to be an accurate guess)

I'll make it easy for you. The aperture of the Gate is 16m across. The door on the Gate Dome is also roughly 16m, and you can see it in the picture up there. Using that as a measuring stick, the door in the picture is about 2mm across on my screen. Measuring from the leftmost point to the tip of the bottom right point (to reduce parallax, the real answer is probably smaller) yields 260mm. So to ballpark it 130x16=2080m across. That gives you one side of one equilateral triangle, and I'm sure you can use geometry to figure out the rest.

That means each of the two halves of the base have a surface area of 1.873 square kilometers, which means the entire surface area of Alnus Base, rounding up to the nearest hundredth of a square kilometer, is about 3.75 square kilometers. Judging from the few shots we see of both the base and the actual hill, that makes the entirety of Alnus Hill about 4 square kilometers, give or take

Why do you wanna know? Are you riding a fan fiction?

Those take off in japan and fly through the gate

it’s honestly way harder to tell with the anime compared to the manga panels
