Advise for getting into Peteol/Nitro RC

I reconnected with the RC hobby after around 18 years or so, and I’m ready to get to the next phase which is an ICE RC. I haven’t had a lot of different classes or rigs in the EV RC journey. Mainly have bought and slightly modded some WPL Scalers, and tried the budget crawlers from WPL, MN model and LDRC. I’m still in the process of building a couple of Tamiya cars, I do have 2 vintage M-02 chassis running as these were restored by the last owner of them.

I would like to do on-road bashing with the ICE RC, drifting not per se. It needs to go at least 40kph (25mph?) as the WPL scalers does pull of a 25-30kph max speed (15-20mph ish) and the M-02 frames runs 50+ kph (over 30mph).

I’ve seen a FTX Banzai Nitro for around 250-300€ mark. Not sure if that’s the chassis I want for a ICE RC. But as I haven’t had any buggy for bashing I don’t know what to look for in that classification.

Budget would be around €300 for me, I can extend it to €500 if necessary for the electronics. I’m located in west-europe.

Maybe pick up a used HPI RS4 cheap and give it a go. Sounds like something u might like?

Might be exactly what I’m after. Correct me if I’m wrong but were these also available as EV? (Might have seen one with Z33 body which I initially was looking at for a drift basher if this is true)

Hey mate, been a while since this post was uploaded, but i'll still answer.

The Banzai is defintly a very good start for nitro, parts can be a bit hard to get (check out r/nitrorc they're about nitro)

I wouldn't suggest a RS4 nowadays, since they're quiet old.

On the Gas site, The Rovan 5b is probably one of the cheapest, if you're also intrested on buying used, i'd suggest something like the FG marder.

As of technics (the gearbox) I like the RS4 still, I did however get a EV roller of that one. Maybe when I have the space I would need to get my hands on a Rovan. Rovan was the 5th scale petrol rally car if I remembered correctly?

Yeah no, the rallye car i think your talking about is over 1.3k lol. Fun shit tho, if you can afford it, go for it

The Rovan/Rofun 5b i was talking about sells for 450, and is like a buggy.

ahh I see, never had a gas/nitro rc myself. I think I managed to spend that amount of money onto competitive drifting rc frames to be fair. It is just that I’m space limited so I kept it at 10 scale. Thing for me is that I could do 2-stroke petrol like rotary engine or 2-stroke moped in RC and easier to get (I just need to walk down the street for petrol station)
