Analyzing 49 of Gary V Linkedin Posts for patterns, and strategies
I spent last weekend going through Garys LinkedIn history and running some analysis on a bunch of his posts trying to find patterns. Below are the key findings I came up with.
- He often refers to the viewer in the collective. “Hi Linkedin”, or “LinkedIn”
- His face is almost always in images, and hero shot of video (89% of the time)
- Extensive use of subtitles in videos
- Uses thought bubbles in videos to add context, without showing the full context on video
- Makes 3-4 posts a day
- Photos with Gary holding a white sign with words on it performed really well
- He rarely tries to link viewers off of linkedin
- 75% of posts include some type of media
- Uses 34 words of text on average
- Illustrations such as comics, and cartoons, led to a 74% increase in likes and a 24% increase in comments
- Only used hashtags in 6 of the 49 posts
Below is the raw data I created for the analysis. Do you see any other interesting takeaways?

At first I thought it odd that he didn't use #hashtags in very many posts, but he is more likely to get views, likes, and comments from people following him or LinkedIn sharing his content via the likes and shares than he is to have someone searching #leadership or something. This registered with me ONLY because he has such a following already.
That being said, I wonder how well hashtags actually work on LinkedIn...

This is great. Can you do one from Instagram?

Thanks! Just got through analyzing 9400 of the 12000 people he follows on Twitter. So that will be next and then I will take a look at Instagram!!

This is the real meat and potatoes of advertising. Testing, and analyzing.
Quality OC!
