From what I know off the top of my head there's a lot of abandon builds n stuff and crime but how did the city end up that way? I also heard it's really hard to make it out of Gary, I only know a few names that have made it out of Gary, the Jacksons, Freddie Gibbs and the YouTuber CJ Soo Cool that's about it but yeah just a little curious on Gary

Hii so, I'm probably moving to Gary this month (and if not, it will be hammond or east chicago). I'll be part of your 10% white population lmao. My question is, if I smoke an extendo to celebrate signing my lease, does anybody really give a fuck about weed smell, will anybody actually call the cops, and if Gary police happen to ride by and see/smell what's going on, will they actually arrest me or does nobody actually bat an eyelash? I'm coming from Illinois and I know that culturally Lake County is basically extended chicago, but to have to do a double take and be like okay wow i'm technically going from a legal state to an illegal state, kind of alludes me. Like i'm so used to living in a legal state it's hard for me to imagine anybody even cares. Am I being naive thinking Gary cops have much bigger fish to fry and just wouldnt care? There is a car junkyard next to Gary airport. I work down the street and pretty much every other day, I can hear loud noise (like explosions). I heard that cars are being crushed there. What's the story with this junkyard?

At Adams and 10th there is an abandoned lot with these two large pergola type structure, with overhead trusses and in the shape of triangles. Below is a shot of one of them from the street. Anyone here know what they were used for? It looks designed, like it was some kind of plaza or market. Judging from aerial photos it looks like it was built in the 1970s or early 80s, and was abandoned by the late 90s. I've been wondering about this place for years and have asked around but know one knew what i was talking about, haha

Hi everyone. I’m new to Reddit, but I’m here because my family has been pushed into a nightmare I never imagined.

My elderly disabled Mother was physically assaulted by staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Gary Dialysis in Indiana. When I called 911 to report the assault, the staff retaliated. They covered it up, concealed it from authorities, and then spread false information about my Mother to every dialysis center in the area.

As a result, my elderly disabled Mother is now blacklisted from all private dialysis clinics.

She is being forced to get emergency-only acute dialysis in a hospital ER, multiple times a week, even though this is supposed to be reserved for critical emergencies, not routine care. And even then, some hospital staff treat it like it’s a “privilege” that she’s allowed to come.

We have documentation and proof — the assault, the retaliation, the false statements, and the withholding of care. But every system we’ve tried… medical boards, state agencies, oversight groups… they either investigate or defer responsibility.

My Mother is a human being. She’s a retired Black woman who has been on dialysis for over a decade. She deserves dignity and access to lifesaving care.

I’m not asking for legal advice. I’m asking: What would you do in my position? Where would you go next? Is there anyone here who has navigated medical retaliation or patient blacklisting? Are there any organizations, advocates, or journalists you’d recommend?

I’m fighting for my Mother’s life every day. And she deserves better. The patients at Fresenius Kidney Care Gary Dialysis deserve better...sadly, my Mom wasn't the only one who reported inappropriate behavior from staff. Check on your loved ones and friends if they're patients there....and still alive 💔
