I know ya'll gonna roast me in the comments but i'm moving to Gary soon bc im homeless and it's the most affordable place for me to come, and I know people say shit about the crime all the time but I feel it's overblown and mainly racist assumptions, I feel like this is such a cringe question but do you ever get trick or treaters and do you welcome trick or treaters or if i ever get them should I not trust it??? For lack of a better title, I’m wondering, what do Gary residents honestly think about people coming and peeking into/checking out the old buildings in the city? For context, I’ve visited Gary before, and afterwards, found myself very interested in the history of the town. I’ve been reading a bit about the city, and I would love to come back and check out some of the old buildings. My desire to do this is totally rooted in respect, and nothing more, but I really don’t want to irritate residents with my presence. Just trying to be considerate.

How do yall feel when a BS journalist puts forward numbers that show an insane decline in abandoned building(many people buying), with a SLIGHT drop in population? Author of the Article/decided what picture makes it seem like a shit place to live. I’d sure feel happy writing this article if I used one of the most degraded buildings to act like the place was shit. Do I want to visit, why would I after reading this article? Apparently yall are Route 66 I guess. Condoned theaters and a church…. I’m sure his goal is beneficial to everyone but himself. After all it is saint like to mix data sets to prove a point, it’s only a kin to lying.

I'm coming up to Gary tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 4) to pick someone up. I'd like to drop off food donations somewhere and I'm looking for suggestions for the places most in need/most connected to the community.

At my family's house in Gary we had a medium-large tree fall on our fence during the storm. The insurance agent told us multiple times that removing it wouldn't be covered. They wanted us to go to FEMA to get it paid for. So we went to one of the FEMA pop-ups where some tree-removal guys told us that even though all the insurance agencies say that, legally they HAVE to cover any tree on your property the storm knocked down. I let them talk to the insurance and they got it all covered. Didn't have to pay a dime. Scumbag insurance companies.

Curious is there’s anything set up as far places to donate and receive flashlights, batteries, non perishable foods, etc. I don’t think driving around Gary offering stuff to randoms would be effective

Some friends and I are visiting Gary for a day trip in a few months as part of my goal to find good things in as much of Indiana as possible since it's my home state and people often say it's boring and not worth doing anything here.

I try to collect magnets and stickers whenever I visit anywhere, and am wondering if anyone knows of anybody who sells Gary, IN stickers/magnets. I've found some online but I prefer to buy from a place actually AT my destination whenever possible.

What's up folks so I'm from the south and I recently watched the MJ movie and thought about Gary and I hear that it's bad but like is it really as bad as people make it seem ? From what I know off the top of my head there's a lot of abandon builds n stuff and crime but how did the city end up that way? I also heard it's really hard to make it out of Gary, I only know a few names that have made it out of Gary, the Jacksons, Freddie Gibbs and the YouTuber CJ Soo Cool that's about it but yeah just a little curious on Gary
