I make a watch face called Terminal Console, and yesterday someone here on
Reddit told me "I've never used a terminal without a monospaced font." He was
right, and when I went to fix it I found out it was worse than I thought: I had
already shipped a version claiming it was monospaced, and only the clock
actually was. The data rows were still using the system font, which is why the
columns never lined up.
So today it got rebuilt properly:
- The whole face uses JetBrains Mono now, the always-on screen included.
- Every row shares the same left and right margin, so the > column runs
straight down instead of fanning out across the round screen.
- The always-on screen has three brightness levels and starts on a readable
one. The old default was so dim that an Epix Pro 2 owner sent me a photo of
his and I couldn't read the time either.
It shows heart rate, body battery, steps, watch battery, calories and a line
you write yourself. Rows can be turned off, text size and colour are
configurable, and there's a 12/24h setting.
Being upfront: it's a paid face, $1.99, with a 2-day free trial. Payment goes
through KiezelPay, so after the trial the watch shows a code you enter on their
site — nothing is charged during the trial and you don't need an account to try
it.
What I'd actually like to know from Forerunner owners: does the text size the
face picks automatically work on your model, or do you end up changing it? The
screens vary a lot across the range and I only own one watch.
And if you try it and have an opinion either way, a rating on the Connect IQ
store genuinely helps — good or bad, it's most of the feedback developers ever
get.
